Hello
Just wondering if anybody has had any experience submitting pictures with Picture.com for their photo contest and if you did what happened and what are your thoughts on it.

This is my experience so far:
I had submitted a picture a while ago and they invited me to their conference for a price (conference itself was $500 and then $200 for anybody you bring and that doesn’t include travel, I don’t know about you but that is a lot of money - also you had to be in the conference to be entered into the contest which they forgot to mention), then they said since you aren’t coming that I could pay for them to showcase the photo ($169). When I didn’t do that they offered me a membership for a price again which I didn’t do.

Now they are asking permission to publish my picture in a book, it does say that I would keep the copyrights on it, and if I wanted the book I could purchase it for a discounted price but I am not obligated to purchase it.

Now because of all their other ‘pay to play’ I’m very cautious now about anything that they send to me . . . always looking for the small print, so to speak. So if anybody has had any experience with something similar I would appreciate your input.

Thanks

I would stop just short of calling it a scam (though there are many others who wouldn't [stop short, that is]).

Basically it is a vanity press publication where you pay them to publish your pictures. Don't bother with it. The best deals are the ones that pay you to publish your pictures. :)

Everyone that submit gets the same offer.

That it is a 'scam' is the impression that I get from everything that they send to me, all the other things I just ignored but being a bit new to photography the fact that something I did would get published kinda sparked my interst, but I was looking for the catch.

And you are right in saying that 'The Best deals are the ones that pay you to publish your pictures' and maybe one of these days it might happen . . . but not anytime soon :)

Scam! They want to print your picture (without paying out) then sell the books and make profit AND won't even give you copies - $70/book if you want to see your pictures printed beside people who left the lens cap on!
