This weekend while out shooting for the jump challenge I told the kids I photographed that I would post their images on my personal website where only they could access them if they wanted to. I got the images ready to go but couldn't figure out how to get the ftp to work on the companies new server. Well eventually I couldn't even get access to my site at all, regular site or control panel.

Everytime I try and access it (even from my works servers) I get the generic search engine saying it couldn't find it. My site is //www.sabphotography.com or //65.98.7.83 and should come up with pictures of my daughter at a leadership conference concert. Everyone else I talk to, even the servers host, can access it fine but I can't.

I've unplugged my monitor for a min or two and plugged it back in...nothing. I've tried ipconfig /flushdns and /registerdns and /release and /renew and even turned off my firewall thinking that did something...nothing. I shut down when I'm done with my system so it has been restarted a lot and still nothing. I've even pinged it and only get time out errors.

I can access any other website I want but not anything to do with my website or websites control panel. My server host has tried numerous computers and can't see any errors either. I have never heard of such a stupid thing.

Someone help me please!!!!

Thank you in advance.

//www.sabphotography.com works for me, I get a picture of a girl smiling and some text "Leadership Conference" and thumbs down the left side.

Works for me as well. Have you tried replacing your router with a known good one?

Hi Scott,

The numerical address takes me to some hosting website, when I click on //www.sabphotography.com, it does take me to your website.

Try clearing out your cache, cookies, etc., that is the only thing that I can think of.

The only other thing, at least temporarily to get the 'jump challenge' images up for the kids... use someone else's computer that you trust and has FTP, do what you need to, then clear out everything.

I've never heard of that happening, except when my computer kept old cached page and was being a pain when I tried to delete it.

Good luck!

Try this ...

Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Delete Files ... close the browser and try again.

Since everyone else can access it, the cause is likely a router (not YOUR router). Think of your site a town surrounded by water and the only way to get there is by bridges. There was an accident on your bridge so you - and everyone else who uses that bridge can't get to your town. We all use different bridges so we can get there just fine though.

Bottom line is - there is nothing you can do about it until they clean up the accident (reboot or replace the router) to get to your site but wait. These things are normally cleared up within 12 hours though.

This is a normal occurance, sometimes hardware just fails.

Edit: Your ISP and hosting company will likely NOT tell you it's a router because the router would not be owned by them so they don't want the liability of telling you abotu someone elses problem. Stupid I know but very common.

Just to illustrate Dan's point further:

It's like you are on "Rant Island" and you are trying to get to "New Iceland" :D

Don't do this as it doens't clear everything. Go into C:\Documents and Settings\**yourusername**\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
And delete everything inside this folder.

Could it be a bad entry in your HOSTS file?

Assuming you're using a recent version of Windows, have a look in C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (open it with Notepad or Wordpad) - WINNT might be WINDOWS or WIN or something.

In there you might see some entries that look like:

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
65.98.7.83 www.sabphotography.com

The ones with a # at the front are comments that are ignored - so don't worry about them. The other ones contain an address and a "host name". If any of them has a host name "www.sabphotography.com" or similar (like the second one in my example, below localhost) then try deleting it.

It may be that you put an address in there, but your hosting company has changed the address.

at a command prompt, type "tracert www.sabphotography.com" (without the quotes). It will then show a series of routers your communications are routing through. If you aren't getting to your site, this should fail at the suspect router.

I hope so, too.

Love the Third Day pix, by the way. :) Love their music, too.

Also if you have service pack 2 installed on your computer your firewall might be turned on, sometimes that can effect communication with a server.

Nobody...well this is what I got, it does look like I have some problems in there but have no idea what to do now. I'm going to send a message to my server people to see if he can do anything or tell anything.

Aeroglyphics..I checked the windows firewall...it's off (macafee is one)..thanks anyway

Paddles....found that file and it has nothing with sabphotography or the actual address in there...thanks also

Bluenova...all is gone from there too... :(

I even checked my updates to see if anything was updated to change this and nothing there.

Well still no connection to my site. Looks like the router problem, I will email the host and see what he can do. Thank you everyone for your help.

I assume you're sending them a copy of that screenshot? The fact that 65.98.0.227 directed the traffic to itself seems odd, that may well be the problem. Anyway based on the numbers I'm guessing that that is owned by your hosting company so they can do something about it.

I didn't notice that...hummm. I did send him this screen shot and also once tracing to his main site showing that I had no problem getting else where. I did a search on that dying address and was going to send an email to the company asking for help but decided against it...may still.
