I am lookign for a cheap camera for my son to play with that would also be a decent point & shoot to compliment our Digital Rebel. I am looking at a Vivitar camera with an interpolated resolution of 6mp but I have no clue what this means. Any help?

Would also appreciate any suggestions to a good point & shoot under $100.

It means it has a resolution of 3mp and it uses complex algorithms to strech it out to 6mp.

Edit to add: My advice is to stay clear of Interpolated resolution, but if it's just for snap shots, it might be ok.

Eeek. I would also steer clear of anything vivitar personally.

See if you can find a used A80. It has full manual controls as well as full auto, it also uses a flip out screen and AA batteries. Further, it has a glass viewfinder, which I prefer for panning shots.

The A80 is a fantastic camera.

You might be able to find a 2nd hand one for around 100-150?

I think I agree with the other regarding Vivitar.

Pentax makes some great little point and shoots, including the Optio line. Also I can vouch that Canon and Kodak do a good job.

Sometimes the best way to find these things is go to www.pricegrabber.com (if you haven't already), put in the criteria that you are looking for (price, megapixels, etc.) and then search what's available. This will also find you the lowest price on any model (that's available online).

Good luck.
