My boyfriend, Czechman, and I went to the Long Beach Grand Prix today. I wanted to share some of the pics that I took while we were there. If anyone wants to see more, let me know and Czechman can post some of his too. Did anyone else attend this event??

I hope you all enjoy the pics! :-)

Watched it on TV; made me wish I was there as I was several years ago when it was F1.

The shots are great, I'd say that you have mastered the motion panning technique.

Besides the cool cars, whats the differance between the Grand Prix, and driving on the 405?...oh yeah, probly not as many road rage incidents.

Great pics!

I had the pleasure of driving a formula audi for a few laps. It was the best drive of my life!

Good effort to get the cars in the frame like that! Did you try any with the blur on the car instead of the background?

Unfortunatly it also shows why I don't bother taking a camera to most race events now, it's all about access - damn wire fences. I remember reading a Darren Heath article on shooting F1 and techniques, blah blah - not bad info mind (and he is pretty handy with the camera:), just missing the minor fact that shots look worse with that wire running through them and you need a huge lens to make up for that 200 meters further away :-) (I know IF you can get close enough the wire can almost seem like it's not there).

F1 in Long Beach - "several years"; From memory that was in the early 80's - 83 maybe? :-) Never got to that race but it always looked like one of the truly spectacular locations (similar to the Gold Coast CART races in some ways).

Cool photos. Any Toyota Pro/Celebrity racing shots?

I wish we could have had some, but Anmitsu was only given tickets for Sunday. The pro race was on Saturday. Nice perks though, getting free tickets from work! I had to play nice for a week so she would invite me! :-D

I uploaded 2 photos below that have the cars blurred and the background clean, but the fence is quite distracting IMO. I wish I was better at the motion panning, but I still need some work...

Yeah good stuff! Oh to be on the inside of the fence...

Good stuff you guys, the catch fencing at street courses definitely makes it advantageous to be one of the photogs w/ access!

That's why I tend to shoot at natural terrain courses, like Laguna Seca, Road America, Sebring, Road Atlanta, Lime Rock, etc. Most natural terrain courses have areas where you can get really good access w/ no fencing in your way and an amateur can get similar shots to what the pros get.

Hoping to make it to several races this year.
