Extreme abstract interpretation of the challenge theme earns a picture very low marks in my mind. Many of my votes on the Right Angle submissions are low because of this.

I see many right angles, but few provide the strength of the shot.

Perhaps many seemed to ignore the word 'strength' in the challenge details.

I am new here and this is my first time voting. I agree with you. I saw many wonderful photos that did have right angles but few found their strenght in the right angle. I don't know that my entry measured up in this area either but I really tried to make the right angle a focal strenght.

Someone is holding the angles like drunk for the fence here!
This is not a Police exam ,it is an artistic contest, creativity should be rewarded!
My photo has at least 60 right angles and it's doing terrible, must be at least 30 2's this time, it is very discouraging!

im right there with ya. Did finally recieve a coment stating there were no right angles in my pic. Funny...i see right angles all over the place...go figure. my perception is warped, yet again.

I have only 1 funny comment on my photo so far!
I think I will start skipping open challenges because of unfair votes!
Look at the Garden challenge ;
This photo has 6 2's and 5 1's
this one has 15 2's and 2 1's etc...

i also agree. the right angles can be at perspective or otherwise skewed and the like, but they should be what holds the image together, or at least are a very important/prominent part of it. haven't gone through a whole lot, but many of the ones i have, the right angles seem to just be unimportant backdrops to other objects.

but as i said, i've just started, so don't bash me. :oP

where did you find that model?

I'm very let down by the voting here. And not many comments, I didn't get a entry in time for "in the garden" but My trends photo did awful, I know it had some faults but it did fit the theme. Colors and patterns of the 60's was the trend. It was not a easy shot to set up, could have been focused better, but I thought "12" one's was a bit much. That's like saying you suck don't bother.
Sorry I'm having a bad day today.

Whats the average number of votes per photo per members only challenge? Any stats on that one?

the model in your garden shot

This is exactly how I feel. I wrote the same opinion in the Web Site suggestions. I feel the voting is not constant on the Open Challenges compared to the member's and it really makes me think about entering in the Open category anymore. Only the topic could make me enter again.

I agree that many of the photos did not use right angles as the strength of the shot or even make an attempt to.

It's actually hard to find any random photo without a right angle in it someplace, so I do think that shots where the right angle is not important should be scored lower.

I see challenges as a way to provide a picture that helps convey the challenge theme to the audience in a creative way. If my audience can't make the connection between my photo and the challenge I should be scored low.

Unless it has text or uses another picture, I don't think there is such a thing as an illegal border. At least, I don't think you can get a dq for one now.

It certainly is the colour of my feeling about my present score. I wish I could photograph that feeling and enter it for the desolation challenge.

i guess in this instance, a low score isn't all bad. provides inspiration for the next challenge. ;)

Oh, my fellow night owls. Don't get too much discouraged by the scores. If you enjoy taking pictures and editing them, don't worry about the little minds that do not get it.

I find many images in the challenges are quite amazing. It inspires me to take more and better pictures. The heck with someone who scores me low. They have no idea what joy I experienced by going outside, looking for interesting things to shoot, and then downloading them and playing with them.

I have made it rule for myself that I am not going to give anyone a score of less than 3 (unless the image is blank)... I am not going to lower the scores once I assign them, because my first impression is very important. I give photographs good scores sometimes even if they are little bit flawed just for the effort that someone actually took the time to find something interesting to show us.

I really WISH some of the lower score "givers" would lighten up a little and value what they are loking at. But that's just me.

Would you give the crown to a male beauty pageant contenstant in Miss Universe contest? The RULES of the challenge are VERY VERY important and have to be adhered to.

That's the whole point of the CONTEST. This site isn't called www.dpabstractinterpretationofchallengerules.com
