Gottcha!!

Yeah, the voting doesn't begin till several hours from now BUT I am sure this thread will be needed if not for anyone but myself ;)

Do the voters here have some "sense of humour" ?

I thought i'd take a break from looking at my lowish scores by not entering this one. But if i had i'm sure i would be commenting in this folder for the right reasons :)

Voting is very subjective and the results shouldn't be taken too personally. My primary reason for being here is to get inspired by others, to learn by others, to enhance my photographic qualities, ... Of course I don't like getting low scores neither, but perhaps the shot wasn't really that good and I need to acknowledge that. Or people didn't understand the meaning of the shot, then I should be self-aware enough not to whine.

And in most cases the really good (in terms of originality and technical execution) pictures get high marks anyway.

So try to get better instead of complaining about low scores ;)

A day where you haven't learnt anything is a lost day.

Thanks for being didactic - Now show me some sense of humour as well ;)

I didn't target you specifically, Tarique, nor did I want to sound didactic :)

Those were just some thoughts of mine. Because it seems that a lot of people here are too concerned with the scores they get instead of trying to learn something from those scores. Of course voting can be unjust. But so can life ;)

Well I've been following DP Challenge for about a year. My brother bought a digital camera a week or so ago so I borrowed it on Sunday so I could enter for the first time. :)

I'm a total novice photographer...I just figured out what an F stop was 3 days ago, but I'm excited to learn and see if I can improve my average as I go along.

Until I get my own camera I'll have to get by on the genorisity of my brother. Good thing he only lives a couple miles away. :)

I wasn't accusing you either and "didactic" anyways is not derogatory in my dictionary.

Yes a lot of people are too concerned with scores and the second major concern seems to be "meets the challenge or not" I started this thread as a tongue in cheek response to that, the same is true for the cheesy title of my entry for the challenge.

:D

All my comments were tongue in cheek also, though my garden shot is an all time low :)Just makes you wonder sometimes as i have had heaps of good positive comments and feedback about my garden picture but the average of my scores nowhere near reflects them. Would be nice if those who crucify pics would say why as it could help me (and others) with their photography.

Looking at your score stats (for 'Round') Darryl, you didn't get many incredibly low votes or very many high ones. You'll find that most people commment on the extremes 1-3s and 7-10s. Your placing was actually very high (60/293) so best to just look forward to the next challenges and try to get noticed for the right reasons. ;)

However it would be good if people who felt very strongly about something made their voice heard.

I guess i just have to get used to the DPC definition of "what is an alright score". My round score 5.6??? to some may seem not bad (and probably rightly so too) but i personally give a 5 as a "Hmmm, yeah it's ok. It's not great and it's not a WOW but it's ok". Everyone votes what they feel a pic deserves but i look at my score and compare it to what i would judge a 5 to be. Maybe my goals and expectations are higher than they should be?? Maybe DPC is a reality check??

Thanks DPC! I guess i will get the bill for that diagnosis in the mail? :)

Around the same time as the Round challenge there was a thread that a score of 5 here was something to be proud of... BTW I gave you an 8 on that one.

The bottomline still boils down to - Learn and Enjoy don't aim to please ;)

Comming from a site admin is that something to be afraid of? A warning in disguise or something?

No fear of tempting fate. I know the challenges are just a way of learning, there's no huge sums of money up for grabs (imagine the scoring if there were cash prizes)! Like i said i've been looking at how i vote a picture and then interpret the score i am receiving and there layes my problem. But i think i have sorted that out with no harm to future voting that i do :)

I counted up to 21 right angles in my submission before I gave up counting - but as I don't have one main one as the focal point of the image I don't expect it to rate too well.
08/05/2003 11:14:00 PM · #16
I think my submit got a 10-12 right angles

aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh it's not even midnight yet! This thread is so not funny! ;)

:(

My score hasn't moved a bit. Zero comments.

You too, huh? :)

(For those who are truly scared now, 14 mins to unsubmit!)

I will give low score to any photo which have simple 90 degree object on uninteresting dark background.......

We need some funny and creative shots here doesn't matter how many angles are there!
08/05/2003 11:52:00 PM · #21
It does say "angles" not angle.........
I get so tired of the narrow minded interoperations.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh - I feel better

I agree! My score can stop right where it is right now...alas, I'm sure it won't....

My submission's already getting beaten to a pulp too. :) Fun, fun...
