I don't understand one thing, I gave for some pictures in the hands challenge 1 and when I look at the photo there is no 1 there, why? |

Do you vote on 20% of the pictures? |

If you are not logged on, you will not see your own votes. Just a thought.....

First, if you did not vote on 20% of the final number of images your votes do not count. If you vote on 20% and one of the images you voted on is DQed, and it drops you below 20%, your votes will not be counted.
Second, part of the roll-over process is to remove votes that are 'obviously' not in the best interest of the site, so if your voting pattern matched the patterns the program looks for your votes were tossed. An obvious voting pattern that is watched for is all votes of 1, with nothing else, or even one 10 and enough 1 votes to make 20%.
Third, the '<<' link to take you to the previous image is close to the 1 vote -- is it possible you hit it by mistake?
and finally, it may well be a glitch in the voting page. There was an update made not too long ago that introduced a number of glitches in voting (most notably the restriction to one window/tab open at once) -- so if the above don't apply, a glitch is possible.

I was loged in and I have voted for more then 20%, that is why I don't understand. |

Did you only hand out 1s? If so your votes may have been deleted due to vote-swaying.

As noted in the Challenge Rules, there are systems in place to automatically monitor voting for attempts at vote-swaying or "troll voting." The administrators have identified certain voting patterns that have a very high probability of being disruptive or of being intended to unfairly influence the challenge results. Voters who fall into that pattern are automatically flagged and their votes ignored for that challenge. Voters who do this repeatedly (or are found to have done this willfully to give an unfair advantage to their own entry) may also be subject to suspension of their DPChallenge accounts.
I don't know what those criteria are (and couldn't share them even if I did), but since you're concerned that "I gave for some pictures in the hands challenge 1" it sounds like that's the only score you voted. I'm guessing that if you cast all or mostly ones, those would be flagged as disruptive.

Wow, that's really scary. A photo really only deserves a 1 if it is really really bad :) Usually that means out of focus + too dark to see anything + completely off topic (like a foot in "Hands") + taken through a blanket at ISO20,000. Like, bad bad.
No technically ok photo should earn a 1 if you simply don't like it. Liked your hands entry by the way :)

I don't think it's fair because if I want to give 1 to a photo I should be able to give 1 as long as the votes are opened for registered users.
Thanks kiwiPix

Yeah, you can give a 1, but you have to score other photos fairly too. You can't think they all deserve a 1?

It's fine to give ones to photos you think deserve them. It's decidedly not fine to give ones to all or a large number of your competitors, presumably in hopes of helping your own chances in the challenge. Doing so is vote-swaying and is subject to suspension.
The voting scale runs from 1 to 10, and if you vote, you are expected to vote fairly and honestly using all or nearly all of the voting scale.

Of course not, but maybe from 300 pictures I think that 80 or 100 deserve 1...is this true? |

Many people will agree that 80-100 is far too many 1s. Maybe you should reconsider your voting habits in the future.

I will, but maybe other voters should reconsider their votes too. |

If you truly think the photography on the site is that bad, perhaps this isn't the site for you. Why would you want to spend that much time looking at bad photography?
Generally speaking, your average vote cast should fall somewhere vaguely near the middle of the voting scale (5.5). If it's more than about a point and a half in either direction, you should think about whether you're being overly harsh or generous with your scores.

I didn't say that all the photography from this website is bad, but there are pictures which don't deserve high marks although they have high marks.
It doesn't mean that I don't know how to judge a good photo by it's artistic point of view just because I don't have a good camera or a professional camera.

Maybe so, however they can't all possibly be the worst photos you've ever seen, which is what a 1 vote would indicate. Perhaps voting all the photos you give a 1 on a 1-5 scale in the future would be appropriate, since there must be some that you think are slightly better, even if you dont think they deserve 6 or more? Then you can use the 6-10 scale for photos you like.

I gave high marks for some photos, like 9 and 10, which I realy liked but for me, to give high marks means that the photo should be unique, should have something that I don't see all the time.

You can still give 9 and 10 to photos you like, just spread out the votes lower down rather than clumping every photo into a 1 group. Out of all the 1 photos, you must have thought some were better than others? There's no way 100 photos are all exactly the same to you?

Your voting stats show no votes cast so the answer is yes......your votes were canned.
cheers,

Because you've cast 100 '1' votes the system sees this as an unbalanced voting pattern, and the votes are not counted. |

alintatoc, I understand what you mean about having the freedom to vote what you think the images deserve but has as Konador has stated maybe their is a better way to spread out those votes.
Not saying mine is a perfect method but here is an example of how I vote and have seen some others also. This goes in everyones comments section and that way not only do I comment but the person sees where I think they could have done better.
Fits challenge=0
Color/lighting=0
DOF/focus=0
Wow factor/uniqueness=0
Attractiveness=0

(This section does not go in the comments section)
If you meet the challenge criteria without a shadow of a doubt you get an instant 5, if it seems like you were actually attempting to meet the challenge but failed your score will go down depending on how bad you missed. The other topics get either a 1 or a 0 depending on how well you preformed this area. For images that are extra special and I feel deserves a 10 I find the place I think you excelled the best and give another point.
Good luck on figuring out a method for you, I hate to think that you really saw that many images as 1's but everyone has an opinion.
