Very sorry to hear that... :o( Hope all is okay.

Me too, are you stopping photography?

Thanks SJ and Kiwi - no, everything is not OK. I am not stopping photography but without a camera it will be pretty hard to take pictures. One day I will get another. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I have no choice at the moment.

I just saw the other thread I answered you there, not to take this one OT.

Well, I think I know which one I want to ribbon... I mean besides mine.

Alienyst, I don't know if this helps you out or not but Costco has the *ist for $550. It would be something until you were able to get another. If you know someone with a Costco card that is.

I am impressed with most of the entries, maybe forcing people to use tripod helps them composing the photo.

So Rikki, how is the entry going? Haven't heard much from you so I'm thinking your score is either not that good or just plain off the planet good...???

Got a new camera for Christmas. Left the world of P&S and moved into the, albeit less expensive than many but still there (Pentax), world of DSLR. This challenge is just my third entry with the new machine - the first two hovering in the 5.1 range. But I comforted myself with the knowledge that they were hurry-up entries at the last minute. But now, with plenty of time, a tripod, and assorted ideas, I map out an idea and take dozens of shots only to enter a spectacular POS that is holding steady at 4.4. And it's so mediocre that I only have a single one-word comment from a very nice person who, by the way, has never participated in a challenge.

OY. Sorry, I know this is not a rant forum, and I don't think I really deserve a rant since it's my own crap that is so dissappointing; but GOLLY. Maybe I should start aiming for the brown ribbon.

I think I have a shot at winning a ribbon (a waterfall ribbon, that is). :)

I'm actually pretty pleased with this one. Moving into 4th place for me (not overall!) if it holds! And it has a fun story to it. I will reveal that it is not a waterfall or a watch. :-)

So, why is it that a 2-second exposure has to have blur involved? Long exposure times can also bring out immense detail and richness of tone and depth. For some reason though, many folks don't get that - as if a blurred waterfall is more technically difficult to shoot than a rock. JM2¢W
PS - No, I didn't shoot a rock.

Or a waterfall.
