Ok today was the day my daughter had her Basketball banquet. I got up and started making a slideshow for them to play at the banquet. I was really excited to have this seen by all the parents. I worked on it for about 4 hours using Proshow gold. It got closer and closer to the time that we had to leave and I was starting to panic. First I rotated a pic and must have had a bunch selected instead of just one. Guess what ....I didnt notice until after I set the slides to random order. Finally I told my wife and daughter to go ahead and I would catch up.

when I went to burn it to a disc....the damn thing locked up on me and gave me one of those lovely fatal errors. I was so upset I almost cried.

Call me a sissy or even a puss....but damn that was a lot of work picking those pics out. I had to pull from the whole season and make sure I got all 30 kids. Varsity, Jv and Freshman.
Next time I am saving them to a file first before importing them to any slideshow(this is where you take a mental note and capitalize on my misfortune!!!!!!!!)

Now for the ? What slideshow program do you use and what seems to be the best and easiest. Proshow has some cool transitions...but I think I might like the ones in photostory better. Seem a little more subtle.

What do you guys think?

I originally tried Nero Burning ROM (the software that came with my DVD-R). I had nothing but trouble with it when trying to create a slideshow. If I had just a few images, it worked okay, but if I tried to create a 15 or so minute show, it choked when trying to create the movie. (This was a year ago, so the problems may have been resolved.)

I ended up using "MemoriesOnTV", by CodeJam software. The process still wasn't effortless, but, overall, I thought their software worked well. I think they have a trial version available.

Hope this helps...

I use iPhoto with a Mac.

• Select images (from dedicated folders ((called albums))
• Click Slideshow button
• Customize slideshow (transitions, music, sync music, duration etc all from the same iPhoto interface)
• Save slideshow as QT movie (customize size)

Presto.

Interesting..... I was working on slideshows today myself.

I have Pinnacle Studio 9, which would be a FANTASTIC program, if only it worked. I don't know why, but it tends to lock up on me, and it's only getting worse - today it got to a point where it wouldn't even open the project anymore, even on a freshly rebooted computer.

I downloaded the trial version of ProShow gold because so many DPCers recommend it, but it certainly isn't as good as my Pinnacle (would be IF it worked).

Photostory is free, but very limited, so at present I don't know what I'm going to do - and I need to have the darn thing finished by Friday lunchtime :-(

I use the photoshop elements 4/premier elements 2 combo. Works great. I have a sample online here //www.piccillophoto.com/otherprojects.html.

Beetle:
I had similar problems with Pinnicle Studio 10. Great program ... when it wanted to work.

Give Photo Story 3 from Microsoft. A free download and does a great job for slide show and added music. Very very easy to use.

I have used a few programs and prefer the quality of Proshow Gold.

BUT...this is great for CD's and DVD burn offs...but when I go to email them I have to reduce the quality and they are still to big to email and the quality is attrocious.....any ideas in that department?? I see heaps of slideshows online that are great quality and with music and very small in filesize.

I am keen to put a slideshow with music together to either email or put online.

Yep Microsofts photos story 3 is my favorite...It is most reliable for me rather easy for anyone to use! Ulead also makes a Several movie makers..they are easy to use too..

You are right though you should save all your photos to a folder before importing them, I have lost all my work and time too with errors or power outages...It really does stink if that happens sorry it did when you needed it the most...

Easiest one I found is Photostory 3, have the pics in the order you want in a folder CTRL+A to select all and drag and drop them in movie bar/Slideshow Bar... If everything is Landscape hit the remove blackspace button and it crops em pretty well. I have found it to be pretty smart when selecting panning for ya so I let it do its thing automatically, and fix the pans that don't seem right later.

Adding more than one song I didn't get at first...then I found you just click on the picture where you want the next song to start and hit add music. Sounds simple but they don't tell you that anywhere.

The next easy free slideshow with tunes and narration comes with Windows XP... MovieMaker 2 you will see it in one of two places... Start Button > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment -or- on some installs I have seen it right on the Start Button > All Programs menu.

A little tougher to work with but a whole lot more you can do... Title Slides (with formated text) can be put between photos... you can slide in/out text on your photos with various effects... and you can have a sound track playing and (with a mic of course) narrate your slides.

Both free and both are easy to use...

I have tried so many of them that either flat out didn't work (wouldn't burn a usable DVD) or were so limited... I finally settled on ProShow Gold. There are still a few key features I would like to see - I keep hoping for an upgrade that will include them (I've emailed several times). But of all the ones I've tried, ProShow Gold is so far the best.

Okay I hope someone can answer this question. What maximum pixel size do you reduce your images to for slideshows on the web?

Photo Story 3 produces a very slick slideshow, automatically panning and zooming your photos, which adds a lot to the 'presence' of the show. Their included music generator provides a variety of styles to select from for accompaniment and generates an original score for each slideshow. Very easy to use, only drawback is the video format; Windows Media Video (WMV).

ULead mediastudio has some great features, like moveing paths -- these allow you to control the pan and zoom on a photo, so you can zoom in on one member of a group, and then pan across to get all the members. However, there are some disadvantages (like you can't change the duration of a photo once its in the timeline).
