This challenge seems to be one of the lower scoring ones. If you have read most of this thread you can see all the conversation about it. I too have only been here two months, so I am on that learning level as well. They say that if you can come up to a 5+ you are doing very well, especially in your very first challenge. Keep entering them and stay tuned in the threads, these people here will help you tremendously. If you have a question, start your own thread and people will so kindly jump in and help you. Seems you can tell how BADLY your shot is accepted by the higher number of comments (well, unless you're in ribbon-range, that is)! To start with I was really ticked, then realised that not everyone lives in a skewed world like mine. I'm happy with my picture, it's non-DQable, meets criteria and I learned with it. That's plenty for me, and I figure I'm in good company, with foto-man down near here too! ;) |

Had one comment on a specific feature in my photograph.... Totally misunderstood what it is, and marked down on it. Oh well, a above 5 is always a good thing for me. |

No offence inteded for anyone partaking in this challenge but having looked at the submissions I didn't think there was much thought put into the approaches to most shots compared to the artistic licence used in the majority of past challenges I've seen.
I don't claim to have come up with a better approach as I didn't partake in this challenge but this is just my observation. There were only about 4 images that I placed 5+ and I'm usually generous in my voting.
Interesting to see the end scores :) |

None taken.
I know I took 50 or so images, spent almost an hour to get the setup just right, and planned the image in my head days before I took the shot(s)...and I also know that mine wasn't one of your 4 images that you rated highly. (How do I know? Mine is not going to make it in the top 30 images in this challenge).
So, yeah, I am fairly secure in how much thought and effort went into my submission. Evidently, in your eyes (and the eyes of MANY others), it didn't show through in the end result. Which is fine, I'm here to not only compete, but to learn as well. (Chalk this one up to learning). |

mine goes up. surprise surprise. wow - better than the first two by a long shot! i guess the thinking may have paid off? but, it looks so different on an LCD onitor rather than my own...

AMEN!! Hours one day setting up and shooting, hours the next making some changes and trying again before scrapping the idea and spending several hours a third day before I was satisfied, only to be told by 2/3rds that they don't see it. But I learned a lot, both technically and about what folks want/expect/look for. And hey, I will probably get the honour of the brownie, and only ONE each challenge can have THAT! :D
