Hello everyone,

I'm a beginner in photo and I actually have a FujiPix F700 digicam, nothing pro.

So I was thinking of buying a Reflex camera, but I don't know which one. Also I'm a student and everything lol so I don't have tons and tons of money to spend. So which one would you suggest? A friend told me about the Nikon F70 but I also heard that Nikon is leaving the Digicam Market so it's quite scary to buy one.

Also I was thinking of perhaps buying a Digital Reflex camera in second hand, but what do you think of that? Because since a camera is made of fragile components maybe it's not a good idea to buy it second hand I don't know ... What should I pay attention to so I don't get stolen ?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help :).

Best regards

I use a canon 350D Digital Rebel XT. I am very happy with it. I got that because it was within my budget. How much is yours?

Well my budget is more in the 600 euros

Nikon is going nowhere they are locked in to the Digital market they are however stopping production of most of their film cameras.

The D70 is a great camera but again so are the canon's.

You cant go wrong with either.

f70 is a film camera (an f70 is roughly 1999 tech.)
so far Nikon is only leaving high end film markets

Nikon will not be leaving the digial market ..

Leaving the digital market???

In this case, they would be leaving the camera market in about 10 years ;-)

Don't worry about that one!

for 600 euros i think you can buy EOS 350D or Nikon D50
both are cool cameras and you'll probably be thrilled

Oh ok, thanks for that info :).

Really the F70 is not digital? ..... oooops lol, sorry I meant the D70.

So what do you think about second hand cams? Is it to risky? I mean it's not like buying a second hand book or something like, even if it's second hand it's still big money :(.

I agree with gooc, go either way.

Do you have a photography buddy that has the lenses already? They willing to share? That might switch you over to one camp or the other. But seriously, I think if you go with either Nikon or Canon, you can't lose. I have tried some of Nikon's cameras the D70, and they're all very nice optically. I cannot say the same for the other brands because I haven't tried them. But for the two brands i mentioned, they're both good investments if you ask me.

Really ? New or second hand?

Also, sadly I don't know anyone who could share lenses :(.

Also, i heard about those Sony CCD Captors that were having troubles, do I risk something with the Nikon or Canon?

Do all the Reflex Digicam come without any lense? Do you know a good website with nice low price that would ship in Europe please?

Sorry if I ask to many questions lol, it's just that I don't want to loose my money lol.

All of those choices are great for your first dSLR. But like others will tell you with a dSLR you are buying a system so consider the lenses. Canon & Nikon have the most choices and it is easy to find nice glass used.

Good Luck

Ok thanks, though i didn't understand the end of your post sorry :)

Also do you know a good website that has interesting prices and ships to France?

Also, sorry if this is a stupid question but I was wondering, since the 18-55mm lenses seem to come in first with all the lower price packages, does this means that it's not a awesome lense? And that in the end the camera with this lense will just take pictures as good as a my compact digicam (Fuji Finepix F700 - Link) ?

Also, is it better to have a 18-55mm lense or a 18-70mm ? Sorry but I'm totally new to all the lense stuff and everything lol so I really don't know understand most of the infos I find :(.

The best place to get good lenses is still eBay :-)

My recommendation is to find a Canon 300D with two lenses and start from there. You can upgrade lenses as you get money, then eventually upgrade cameras when you have more money.

I know a 300D isn't top of the line, but your budget right now doesn't allow top of the line anything.

The Sony Sensors that were causing problems were the samller sensors in the P&S cameras, not the ones they manufacture for many of the dSLRs. Canon, for example, use the Sony sensor, as do KM, which Sony has now bought.

Also, if you do go with A canon if you get the 300D you can use the EFS lens the 10D does not support them, just a thought...

The 18-55mm lenses are inexpensive but have OK quality. The Nikon seems to be slightly better, but not enough to make much difference. The Nikon 18-70mm lens, while not a "professional" or top of the line lens, is far better than either the Nikon or Canon 18-55mm lens.

Of the kit lenses, the Nikon 18-70 is generally spoken of as the best.

The 18-55 lenses tend to be quite poor and cheap in most people's view, but can still provide plenty of good images.

I know of plenty of photographers who use the lens without complaint, indeed the group is not so much smaller of people who think the 18-55 cheapies are plenty capable for certain circumstances.

I like them because they provide a semi-wide lens with decent quality at a very low price.

As I am quite satisfied with their quality at the price, my personal 2nd for the list would be the Konica Minolta 18-70. It's probably closer to the Canon and Nikon Kit lenses, but it's got a longer range, probably similar build quality and optics, but also has circular aperture blades. While this probably has a very minimal effect on most shots you are likely to take with such a short, slow lens, it does indicate to me that at the very least, they put a little bit more effort and thought into making that lens. That's a very good indication to me. 2 points for that lens over the other brand kit lenses.
