I am so confused about how to change the size. I go into photoshop to change the pixels but I'm not sure that I am getting the size right for the challenge. My last photo was very small and could hardly be seen. I don't want to keep making this mistake. Can anyone please help me by giving me specific instructions? Please?!

And once again, Rex comes through!!! You give DPC a good name.

I remember when I first joined and had a question, you were there!

Thanks.

Always make the image 640 X (anything equal to or less than 640) and save in jpeg format with a quality that provides a net file size of 150kB or less. Simple!

Yes - The BIG Question - How do I resize my photos. Had the same question when I joined. Still a battle, but getting better. My first entry was a JOKE - Actualy cropped my original photo until the file size was correct - Very BAD result.

Well, I just figured out how to do it but when I submitted my photo, it was rejected because the size didnt meet the requirements...after I changed everything! Hmmm. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Did you follow that tutorial word for word?

yes. I did it three times. Something is wrong. My camera was set on the large setting when I took the photo. Does that matter? I reduced it to 640 pix and 150K but when I submitted it, it's as if i did nothing. hmm.

It doesn't matter what your camera is set at. It should work. you are missing a step.

Hop into DPC chat and I will coach you through a shortend version.

Are you still there?
03/05/2006 09:17:38 PM · #16
Now it keeps rejecting because the file exceeds the 150kb limit.

I use the GIMP to resize...

Image > Image Size...
640 on the longest side, 72 dpi for Web viewing and use Cubic Interpolation.

Always add a dab of Sharpen or USM when resizing big MP shots to bring back the detail.

Another simple way to resize (file size) your images is, use irfanview, open your photo (after cropping and everything else), select SAVE to JPEG, and adjust the JPEG quality settings until you get 150kb or less.

If you have PhotoShop, just use the "save for web" feature
