I've recently picked up a minolta dimage x after reading a few reviews I like how small the camera is as it really does fit in a shirt pocket but even at only 5.5 oz it still is quite noticeable after a while are there lighter cameras in the 2mp range? and if so do they take good pics like the dimage x?

I did a quick scan on dpreview and only found one that weighed less (5.1 oz) not much difference but it didn't have any optical zoom.

I would check out dpreview for yourself to take a look at the camera reviews at the same time.

yeah that's one of the major selling points for me with this camera I can deal with the weight I guess do they make belt clips with cases for small digital cameras (hopefully consealing the fact that it is a camera as some retail establishments look at you funny if you bring in a camera)

anyway here's the first desent pic I've taken with the camera (quite edited in photoshop but I like it)' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/7935/print_preview/30938.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/7935/print_preview/30938.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I'm partial to clouds and I like the detail you've brought out here. Nice use of framing as well.

How about the Sony DSC-U20? 2 million pixels and 4.2 ounces. I've seen some relatively nice shots out of them too.

I have the Pentax Optio S (3.5 oz. w/o battery) that I use as a second, take everywhere type camera. It fits in an Altoids tin to boot! Here is the spec sheet.

Optio S Spec Sheet

I love it, just not sure I would recommend it as my only digital camera. It is great to pack along when I wanna travel lite and plan on taking candids, family, scenics, etc. and dont wanna lug the D60 with me

Scab, that optio looks awesome, I am looking for a good little camera to carry backpacking, I was confused with the memory, is it built in and has removeable sticks? How much memory can you get for it? and how much do they generally cost?

The Optio has 11MB of built-in memory. It also uses SD memory cards. I have a 128 and a 64 mb card also. The price is 399.00, although you might be able to find it a lttle cheaper if you look around. :)

I don't think that it gets much smaller than the Cheez Splash.

There is also a slightly improved Optio out now, for about $300, the S4 is a 4Mp version, with slightly faster response times/ buffers.

I got one pretty recently, you can see some shots from it at :

This gallery

and some more at

this gallery

Though the second gallery also has some D60 shots mixed in. All the panoramas were shot on the S4.
