Stumble across this craigslist listing in Seattle for a 1d with a few cheap lenses, and some accesories for $500. Seems legit since the person wants you to come and pick up the camera yourself. I wish I was in the area to buy this.

Here is the link: //seattle.craigslist.org/ele/137944231.html

Whoah.

If I lived there, I'd totally sell my XT to buy that. Great deal for whoever buys it. Just hope it doesnt turn out to be stolen or something.

That price seems too good to be true. I don't know if I would trust it or not!

I'm not quite sure why I would get excited about a 4 megapixel camera...

Stolen or a scam...

sweet camera there. it will indeed provide better results than a 350XT in most circumstances. (4mp upsized to 8mp can still provide nearly as good resolution if your information is spot on and the noise profile is probably still decent)

Can it be hard to sell older stuff? You bet. My roommate is trying to sell his not very old Bronica Medium format system originally worth more than 25000 dollars CAD and he's barely able to pull a tenth what he paid for it all just a few years ago. Once a thing is determined by many to be outdated, you are pretty much SOL.

His picture includes a charger. I wonder if a stolen camera would include the stock charger. Sure, it's possible but probably pretty unlikely.

it's probably a made-up address. You show up with the money and he takes the money and says have a nice day...I'd be weary.

if that was a d2h, I'd probably go, but show up with a baseball bat just incase...I'd be all over that if I were close.

that's obviously a stolen account - the seller has a feedback of 98 , but has 90 items listed at $299 each? That camera is listed under women's shoes! Yeah, right. Also, see where they say to contact them outside of ebay? Hmmm...yeah right.
I reported it to ebay BTW.

I would. It's got a much better constructed body, better features, way faster burst rate, etc. And I don't really print over 8x10, ever.

What threw me was his excellent feedback. Good thinking to report it! I am glad you were able to put 2 & 2 together, because I sure didn't! I bet the real owner of that ebay account will be thankful a guy in Seatle was selling one for $500. ;o)

I guess I can't get excited because I never drop my camera, don't shoot sports or fashion models and almost always print over 8x10. ;)

Mad, I thought you had a D-70?

If I wanted a 4 MP camera, I would buy a point and shoot. Why won't the guy in Seattle ship?

Now, I heard yesterday that someone around here is selling a couple of 10 D's. I told the guy at the camera shop if he hears a definite price to call me and let me know what it is.

So, would you guys trade an Olympus E-300 for a Rebel XT?

I would trade an Olympus E300 for an XT in a heartbeat.

It's not about the megapixels, it's about the size of the pixels. The XT has larger pixels than the E300.

It's also about the type of sensor which wastes less power. Power wasted becomes heat. Heat increases noise.

The olympus uses significantly stronger noise reduction in camera too, which costs you in the fine detail department. Blah.

As far as dust on the sensor, ok, so that can be an issue, but plenty of people manage to keep their sensors clean. And you can clean it yourself.

Lenses are good for both brands, but I feel like there is more bang for the buck with Canon. Mostly that's because of the 2nd hand market though.

The rest of it is pretty much even point for point for the two cameras though.

Also, all feedback is from different sellers, no feedback on anything they sold to customers. Nobody just starts selling that much high-end stuff overnight, and you'd think if people were getting a great deal like that, they'd be sure to leave positive feedback.

I sent an email to the ebay seller via the email address he has listed asking about the camera. This is his response:

"First I want to tell you that my cameras are brand new, unopened box
all listed accessories included and also an international warranty.
The invoice will come at the same time with the package.
My buy it now price is the best you could get: 1500usd/unit, including the
shipping and insurance taxes. We will pay them because the package
will be delivered from Europe.
As delivery service we use UPS2days air service (with insurance and
15 days return policy), because it's the faster. And if you will have
a quick payment, we must also have a quick delivery. So that's why we
use as a payment method Western Union money transfer, the fastest and
also very secure way of sending money.
So, if you agree with my terms I'm sure
that we can close the deal as soon as possible.
Waiting your quick answer right now "

I think its an obvious scam. Its just too bad there are so many people bidding on his stuff right now, he is going to make lots of money, and a lot of the customers are going to be dissapointed.

Please do not respond to his email!

I'm not sure how, but that is how they get some information regarding your computer. Next time you log onto Ebay, make sure you have the correct Ebay screen because I responded to one of those scams (dumb me) and after that, everytime I tried to get into Ebay, I was sent to a "sham" site that looked just like it. I had immediately figured from his response that the deal was just a scam, but I didn't know that what they really want is your email address.

It's been awhile so I don't remember what tipped me off, but I think I couldn't log in or something like that. They did not steal my account, but it made it very difficult to get on Ebay for a short time until we found the bug on the computer and got rid of it.

Nope, this was my first SLR.

There's absolutely no 4mp point and shoot camera that would produce images with the quality of the 1D. And it's not all megapixels either; the other advantages of a 1-series camera outweigh the smaller resolution for me

I'd definitely trade the E300 for an XT, but I'm biased ;p
Canon has a HUGE collection of lenses that you can use if you get one of their cameras. Along with just about every accesory you can think of.
