Well, sort of.

Our camera club is having a evening walk around / photo taking / talking rubbish session at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens.

Friday 24th of Feb, meeting up around 5:30-6:00pm at the picnic tables near the garden resteraunt (Kiosk) just over the foot bridge from the Armagh st Car Park. (The one near the bowls club / Lake Victoria).

We intend to bring some snack food and maybe nibble while we walk, or possibly have an evening picnic, then take in some golden hour photography around the gardens. We'll probably hang around until the gates close at 9pm, then sneak over to the strip for a cuppa at one of the cafe's.

There's no requirement to be a club member if anyone wants to join us, it's just an excuse to go for a walk around the gardens, and talk about photography really.. For the squeemish there may be quite a few folks who are using that film stuff you may have heard of, but don't let that put you off!

The club is the Ellesmere Camera Club, BTW, which is based in Leeston... I have the honour (?!!??!) of being the secretary this year.

If anyones interested, drop me a PM..

Not an option for me, yet.

My wife and I are planning two months travel in New Zealand from mid-April to mid-June, flying into Christchurch and out of Auckland. Still putting the plan together. So far we're booked onto the Kepler Track and the Milford Track.

Anyway - we would be eager to meet up with DPC Kiwis while out there. It's always useful to have a local guide.

Such a shame I am in Wellington. Just a bit too far to come for an evening!

There don't seem to be a lot of Kiwi DPC'ers in the South Island, or at least not many who follow the forums.

Last time I 'sent out the call' so to speak I only got three replies... So out of 600,000 or so people down this end of the country that's not good coverage really...

You doing the backpack / hostel thing or travelling "hotel"? If you're on the budget travel end of the scale and need a bed for a night or two just south of Christchuch we'll have a spare room then. It's quite 'rustic' but we don't bite. :-).

Even if we're South African?

Thanks for the offer. We're currently planning on hiring a camper-van, so it won't be necessary. Man we're looking forward to it.

Shame you're short on DPC'ers down there.

Why would being from SA make a difference? I suspect that although you don't quite know how to play rugby we could put up with you. Some of my best friends have spoken to people who knew someone who thought of talking to someone from SA. :-)

Campervan is a good way to go around NZ, there's lots of scenery you miss if you do a package tour by bus or train/plane etc.

The lack of DPC'ers is a bit of a bummer, I'm one of 3 dSLR users in my camera club, so photography discussions with other members quite often turn to focusing on the digital aspects, and not photography.. Very, very, very annoying. It'd be nice to be able to get together with other people who are 'over' the technology leap to digital and were interested in the photography.

Hope you enjoy NZ when you get here, it's not half as bad as Aussies would have you think. :-).

Aussies think NZ is great, as long as you play along with them believing it's another of their states.

If everything I read about the south island is true it's amazing there are any photographers. I'm told you need quality light to take shots. Just pulling the one with bells on.

You missed Sue (suemack) although she's up north a bit more in Whangarei. But she's a very active member who might be good for some travel tips, even if she's not on the path your beating..

And just to pull things back on topic, anyone actually in Christchuch (Not that I am, but close to it... ).

Cheers, Me.

Aussies love NZ if anything we are jealous. I was actually thinking of flying over this weekend and get a great shot for the 80s challenge but then some friends told me that you are still in the 70s over there.
