After a brief discussion about football with UNCLEBRO, I was thinking how rare it is that the universal language of the beautiful game is spoken here on DPC. We have such a wealth of nationalities amongst our wonderful community, yet the main sport coverage mentioned on the forums is that of the North American kind. *Whoop+High Five* :) Obviously this is due to membership demographics.

So, for curiousity purposes, what club do you support? what team conjures up the laughter, the tears, the anger, and the elation? Whos crest do you wear with pride?

OK I'll bite!!

Me - Arsenal Thierry Henri can do no wrong
John Leeds (never mind poor man)
I HATE Chelsea!!!!
Keep a weather eye on Liverpool forn a reason I can't explain - just always had a sneaking admiration for them.

Can't help sighing over Beckham - and I love his football - so tend to watch Real when I they are on Sky tv.

Actually I will watch any team on tv( except Chelsea!) if they are playing good football and I love internationals.

The closest I had to a team around here just left for Texas.

But in the 1960-70s I saw several international matches, including one with Santos (with Pele).

Chill! I'm sure it was only meant in jest! It's just a bugbear over here that you call it football, and changed ours to soccer, yet in your game the majority of the time the ball is in your hands!
Although i know a few Brit rugby players who'd gladly have your pro's over...no guarding though!

Barcelona plays the best soccer at the moment. I don't have any absolute favorites, but some teams that I prefer are..

England: Manchester United
Italy: AC Milan
Spain: Barcelona
Finland: FC KooTeePee (well, my hometeam :)

Pretty well limit myself to World Cup, but love every minute of that. Does anybody know which American channels the games will be carried on this year? Want to make sure I have the proper cable package to pick them up.

An Arsenal supporter eh? Not doing as good as expected this season. I really can't see Henry signing that contract based on current premiership performance. I guess signing that contract all depends on how you do in the champions league. I hope I'm proved wrong though and he does stay with Arsenal, hes a wonder to watch.

As for Chelsea...well...Money talks and all that. A team whos fans celebrate the acquisition of silverware through wealth rather than merit. I can't wait to see what happens when the sugar daddy ups and leaves.

The Academy of Football. Moore, Hurst and Peters. The only club to have 'won' the world cup. :-). And supplier of half the current England Team.

Calm down Nick, nothing was meant to be insulting. We have this little thing where I live called banter. If you look at my original post you might spot a smiley face or two ;)

As for American handball, well, come on, it is a game for wimps isn't it? Why do they require all that padding and protection? Now rugby on the other hand is a splendid game.

I got into watching football (not American Football) when the World Cup was here in the states. I went to 3 games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and watched a lot of it on TV. I was amazed at these athletes that were running full-tilt when it was 130F on the field and I was exhausted just sitting on my butt in the stands. Not to mention the fans that were waving flags, singing and cheering their team on in a way that is unheard of in US football (aside from possibly the "wave").

Unfortunately, now, I can only see games on Telemundo and I don't speak Spanish.

Sorry guys just a little touchy lately with all the US bashing going on. In general our public doesn't see things the way our gov't and media are portraying it. Very sorry for ranting so hard. Hope you all understand. We're very limited on getting our true perspective out for such a country that talks of freedom of speech and all that.

I've been an Arsenal fan since I was 10. I don't get to watch the football here in Japan (unless I wanted to fork out the money for pay TV), so I just look it up on the Internet.
I did see one game at Highbury in 1984 ... the opponents were Chelsea, at a time they were respectable.
The World Cup will be interesting this year as Australia are in the same group as Japan, Croatia and Brazil...

Well, the United State International team to start with. Yeah, I know that will make some of you Europeans laugh, but we are getting better and better every year. This year will be one hell of a test for us in the World Cup. We are going to be in trouble against the Czechs, but since its the first game, I'm hoping we can surprise them or catch them a little flat like we did Portugal in the last cup. A draw against them would make me VERY happy!!

I definitely think we can beat Italy and Ghana, although we could just as easily lose those games as well. We will see what happens. As for other team, I really enjoy watching Brazil play the beautiful game, and if I had to pick an EPL team, it would be The Gunners! Henry is the man...too bad he is probably going to end up in Barcelona.

I just caught the USA vs Japan last week and have some pictures from the game posted in my portfolio.

Liverpool F.C. fan here. Have loved them since I were a nipper in the 80's. To see them riding high these days is bloody great, just hope we can finish above those stinking Manc'c (Man Utd to the American's).

Also have a soft spot for Man City & Bolton, although I don't really know why????? Oh, and whoever happens to playing against the Manc's gets a cheer from me too LOL.

American footballer's are ponces compared to rugger players BTW ;)

I'd like to see some rugby players get in the face of Ray Lewis or Joey Porter. I agree that rugby players are tough, but don't hate on the American Footballers because those guys are tough as nails as well, regardless of the pads. That's part of the game/rules and I guarantee that there are plenty of guys in the NFL who would be willing to play without pads.

I'm sure the Americans know who the red mancs are, afterall, alongside the cockneys and singaporeans they make up the vast numbers amongst Manures supporters :)

I'm really looking forward to the game on Saturday. Can't wait to see the reception that Gary Nevile is going to get at Anfield :) My prediction is 2-1 to Liverpool. It's a real shame that God aka Fowler is cup-tied.

All the best on Saturday anyway.
