I am going to submit an add to a magazine. They say all work must be in Mac format, If I create an add on my PC and save it as a TIFF file would that be compatible with the mac operating system?

I think PDF is the best and like digitalpins said make sure it is VERY high resolution.

The TIFF format specification allows data to be stored in either "big endian" byte order (native format for Motorola/Mac CPUs) or "little endian" (native Intel/PC format). Either format is valid TIFF, and the viewing application is supposed to properly open/decode either type. Unfortunately, I've seen some imaging sw that cannot handle TIFFs in the "non native" byte ordering.

If your image sw allows you to choose which format to save TIFFs in, I would choose the big endian/Mac format. Either one should work, but in case they're using any not-so-well-written software to open images, the Mac-default byte ordering is more likely to work.

(Or, as people have already suggested, PDF eliminates this issue.)

PDF is good, but be careful in how you make it -- there is a wide range of settings available. If you are using Distiller, use the "Press Optimized" job setting. If not, try to adjust the values so the output is 2400 or 1200 dpi, and don't downsample photographic images lower than 300 dpi.

If you make a TIFF file, you need at least 600 dpi if you have line art or type; 1200 or 2400 would be better. You can make the file smaller by saving with the LZW option checked (Mac or PC), or preferably by putting it into a ZIP file before sending. If they want a Mac-format TIFF, just save it that way; your hard drive won't care.
