For all those who have kept track of the DSLR market for some time, BeachCamera has the 20D (Body Only) for $1145. With the forthcoming press release (assuming it is for the 35D or whatever) how soon would you expect a price drop on the 20D? I'm looking into getting one on the very soon end of things and would appreciate any thoughts you all might have.

I'd imagine the price will drop right when the successor is announced (since it'll be discontinued). Also, the used market will see a significant drop in price so you may consider picking up a used one right after the announcement.

I expect it depends a lot on when the successor becomes readily available. The used market is not going to increase dramatically until those who upgrade have the new one. It also is dependent on whether the new one has enough "Wows" to motivate the current owners.

I think it's about as low as it's going to get for a while.

I would guess that once the new model is announced, the camera stores will try to clear the old ones quickly - prob for $1,000 - but while supplies last. Im sure they have all stopped ordering any at this point

Tuesday or wednesday, depending on where you read.
I am waiting for the 35D....impatiently!
Based on the 350XT the 35D should be available in limited quantities in 3 weeks or so.

10.5Mp, 5D AF system, bigger better LCD and 5.5 FPS are the solid rumours. Weight, size, battery and other details are unknown. probably utilize the new 'scene' modes from the 5D. Est $1500-1600 price.

I'd like to wait for a $100 price drop, as that usually happens once the supply of new cams is out there in enough quantity that they actually sit on the shelves for a few days :)

If you look around a bit some places have already dropped by $200 in the US and Canada.

I want the new camera. Business sense suggests sell my rebel and buy 2 20Ds, perhaps one used. Total outlay would be about the same and the end results, well, 2 20Ds vs a 300D and 35D. Hmmm...2 cadillacs or a chevy and mercedes...Hmmm.
But I said want, so it need not be a rational decision!

With the specs people are talking about I really don't see the need to upgrade. The 20d is a very capable camera. I would jump at it if they would finally make IS in body. That would be awesome...
