Darn. I'm having a real tough time with my 7 Deadly Sins entry. I like the shot, but it suffers from two apparently fatal flaws for a DPC entry. 1) It is out of the box (and I'm talking seriously) and 2) It is 100% title dependent.

I had it in, but just yanked it. I'm not too scared of a low score, but it isn't really fun staring at a 4.7 for a whole week. What to do...what to do...

just go for it. if people end up not liking it its not the end of the world. you really dont have anything to lose

Maybe what's needed is a challenge called "Outside the Box"?

Ya, I know. My one vanity is my average vote received. A 4.5 would actually need a 7.7 to offset. I don't think I'm getting a 7.7 anytime soon. :)

With that said, I've been trying to stretch a little lately. It's just I pretty well know this won't do well. I think it's just too far out there. Oh, did I mention it requires a knowledge of current events (at least in the last few years)? Geez, another ingredient for disaster as there are people from all over the world here...

Turn off the update button and the view for a week. Just let it ride.

If it's 100% title-dependent, I wouldn't enter it.

That's just me though.

If you submit for a high score, forget it. If ou submit to submit something you like, go for it!

You know how voters think... it's all up to you...

I'm with Terry. Learned that if it's 100% based on the title it won't do well in a recent challenge. What ever you decide I wish you the best!

Tell me about it !!

Doc, I seem to remember you saying your Tribute entry was too out of the box, not a DPC style entry, and look how well you did there!
Sometimes the strength of the shot stands on its own here. And your work has been even better lately then ever.
The title dependency would worry me a tad...

More importantly, Doc, if one lives in a region where the pollen count is off the chart, does "24 hour" Claritin really mean only once every 24 hours??

If you don't enter, could you at least stick it in your portfolio?

Oh yeah, I'll share it if I don't use it.

Actually claritin doesn't really last 24 hours. You get a noticeable dropoff in the last 6-8 hours. The three main nonsedating antihistamines (claritin, allegra, zyrtec) are all similar, but they do have small, significant, differences. Zyrtec is the strongest, Allegra is next, with Claritin the weakest. Of course many insurance plans have stopped covering them because Claritin is OTC and the other two are still quite expensive.

Go to the pharmacy and ask for generic claritin and then don't feel bad taking it twice a day if needed (as long as it isn't the -D kind which has sudafed in it).

I'll send you my bill...;)

No problem - happy to pay it. :-) And I'm now considering it "18 hour" Claritin until the Mountain Cedar dies down. This is the worst place I've lived for allergies!

And I still say enter the challenge, then turn off the view and the update.... Can't see you getting anything below a 5.5 anyway! :-)

I pulled mine also Doc, It's a great image. Its just to far outta stretch for the challenge, after my last entry in Im gunna wait till I nail it dead center.

Doc. Don't be scared. I'm not in that challenge. I'll be in Virtues!
02/13/2006 11:35:12 PM · #16
You shouldn't worry about your score for every challenge, this approach will only stifle you own creativity.
So what if you have a entry that score below 5. No one is going to care.

Will you be envious of my 4.7?

Awww, man! Do Sins, Rikki... it's too late for me to change! Really, Sins would be way more fun. :-)

And now that I think about it, Doc, mine's pretty darn title-dependent, too. C'est la vie!

This challenge almost demands a title intensive entry...
02/13/2006 11:39:08 PM · #20
my image has nothing to do with the challenge... it's just title intensive so let the brown cometh

No doubt about that.

Getting hammered for an out of the box image isn't bad. I once heard that "attention," good or bad, is most definately good. I think it was a quote by the con who sold the Eifel Tower 3 times.

Just my two cents.

P.S. Look at my mother entry. It disturbed most, but a few liked it!
