I don’t think some people realize that the photos are to be taken after the challenge is announced. How can there be an in the garden pic entry less then 2 hours after its announced. Unless its a darkness pic. Don’t want to be a pain in the ass but this is kind of annoying to people that do follow the submission rules.

It's not dark in much of Europe right now. Ditto for Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Its 11:30 here in India. I have just taken a picture of a spectacled cobra in my garden - If I were to post it?

Anyone awake (and brave) in New York could take a photo of "The Garden" right now as well. I bet there's a few people with HOUSEPLANTS too ....

You'd scare the heck out of about four or five members, but I might buy a print for my dad.

Someone else also mentioned last week (when this same topic came up, cause I think it's stumped us all!), that maybe a couple of entries go in on the new challenge because people think they are posting to the old challenge (Trends in this case) in the minutes or hours after the challenge closes. Maybe having a "dead" period for submissions - a few hours or even a day at the beginning of each challenge when submissions aren't accepted - would help avoid this, if that's really the issue.

How can any of you possibly know that the photo submitted 1-1/2 HOURS after the challenge is posted might not be the WINNING picture?

When we hear every week about how people are able to conceive of, shoot, edit, and upload a submission in the last 15 MINUTES before the deadline, why should we be surprised at someone getting one done in an hour?.

If someone's inspired immediately upon posting of the challenge, and has the equipment and environment to execute it, why should it not be as high quality as any other submission during the week?

Really, this sounds like an "I haven't thought of anything good yet--how dare someone already have done something" rant, not an observation on the current challenge. We get one EVERY WEEK.

Probably because more of us are procratinators! Sometimes I can't even come up with an idea until 1 hour before the deadline.

I'm with you, my only thought was if those first hour submissions are accidental, maybe a dead period for submitting would help avoid that, and "heartache" for the accidental submitter. If that's not the case, then nevermind.

Also because of the time zone problem people might submit to the wrong challenge several hours off. It isn't clear that the dates posted for one week begin and end in USA EST.

--Thanks for clarifying that for me, but Im definitely not like that nor do I have a problem coming up with ideas..

Im thinking they accidental submit into the wrong challenge (English is not a lot of peoples first language and mistakes can happen)

or some people submit older per-announced photos without realizing that the photos are supposed to be new. That’s all I was saying..

Some people also force themselves to enter SOMETHING as a placeholder image. They take their best shot in the first 2 hrs, enter any ole thing, and replace it later if they get something better.

Thats a pretty cool idea. Kinda makes you go out and get the best shot.. Hmmmm

what's wrong with quickly submitting a photo? isn't that one of the most precious things about digital photography: the ability to get instant reults? i have been taking pictures for a long time, and finally got myself a digital. the fact that i can have my photos right away is one of the most valuable aspects of the whole deal. i submitted my photo for the garden challenge within an hour of seeing it on the website. where's the problem???

As long as 1) it was intentional (not accidentally submitted for the wrong challenge); and 2) not an old picture taken before the challenge was announced, then no problem! I think its all cleared up...

Oops. I took the one I entered a few days ago. New to being a member here, and didn't see the fine print. The plant is sitting right out in my greenhouse, though, so I can just run out there again......

Ok all better. I'm also new to photography, and I'm not sure why this pic looks almost painted. The sun was bright behind the plant, and I guess that has something to do with it.

Carful Jim. You don't want to give away enough information about your shot that people know which is yours. Most people around here like the voting to be anonymous.

Good luck in the challenge!

Thanks for the tip, although with my boring personality my beehives and my greenhouse will be about all I post from. Here was the picture that jumped the gun.I thought it looked kind of cool up close.
