Please post comments and any improvements I can make to this picture. I cropped and adjusted levels only. Click on link above thumbnail for larger pic. Thanks!

JMO, but in terms of composition, a little more cropping on the left and top would improve. Cute girl and exposure looks good to my eye.

I was tempted to crop a bit more but was concerned she would take up too much of the picture. I may try it and see what I come up with.

Thanks!

It is ok for her to take up a little more of the picture, it won't be too much .... I agree with mpeters ... a little more cropped from the top ... try to aim to have her head around thirds ... would be an ok sort of aim.

agree with kari1, just a little off the top and maybe only 1/2 brick width on the left

If you are going to do a little more post processing, some vignetting to darken the corners would bring some focus to the girl. Just a thought

Hope you didn't mind but I took a shot at it. Let me know if you like it.

Wow Southern. ..that looks amazing. Don't you think Mad_Brewer??? The color tones make the lighting look wonderful. I love your version.

Gotta tell ya...

I just witnessed Southern Exposure do something I enjoy Tiger Woods do...

Make a shot better....

Beautiful original image taken to the next level with some very simple adjustments by Southern Exposure....

Darn it if I could only wish to have such an eye....nice job!

In and of itself this image is fine. The child's face is facing toward the right where most of the space is. That is good. The child's head is at the correct level for the upper rule of thirds line. That is also good.

Since there is nothing in the background to suggest otherwise I'd recommend that you crop about 100 pixels off the left side of the image (or simply re-crop it) such that the girls face is EXACTLY placed at the upper left rule of thirds intersection point. That would make it slightly more pleasing to the eye.

You might consider a closer crop to make the child larger in the frame.

Another consideration would be to use dodge and burn on the background to add interest to the image. That is how Heida won all those ribbons and hers is a good model to follow. Just don't overdo it... that is what people complain about.

Awesome photograph mad_brewer!!!! I do like the cropping that southern_exposure did. It draws your eye towards the little girl instead of the wall. The cropping puts the focus where it needs to be. Other than that I would leave the picture as is. I really love how in your exposure the color of the little girl\'s shoes intensifies the green of the grass & also how the leaves & mulch mimic the colors of the brick wall. If you do decide to make any adjustments I\'d like to see that version as well.

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions. I will definately play around with the cropping and see what I come up with.

southern_exposure, at first I thought the pic was too dark, but it's definately growing on me.Your processing definately takes the eye towards the main subject. Yes, I like what you did. Did you do anything else besides just apply the vignetting and crop?

Thanks!

i think this would have worked better if it was either b&w or sepia. a little burning of the edges would also be nice
