I am busy casting some votes for the latest free study. I have come across 1 or 2 pairs of photos that look very similar in style, colors, and subject.

I am just curious if there are people who have more than one username and submit more than one photo to a challenge. If so, is it legal that they do so?

I believe that this is not legal. However, remember that many people get together to shoot and often times end up entering similar shots because of that.

They aren't supposed to have more than one account. I have noticed that too and am starting to think that some people shoot together and enter their own varied versions. Like a husband and wife or BF/GF. That is just what I think is happening.

It is not legal. If someone ahs more than one account, it means they can vote twice as well.

No, it's not legal, and when we find it we act. What you're seeing, though, is probably either just coincidence or folks who went out shooting together. There was a pair like that in the Wildlife challenge, and there have been numerous examples over the years, even two that both ribboned in the same challenge!

It does happen, yes. But no, it's not legal. But there are also friends, spouses, roommates, etc., that shoot together and sometimes it's just a weird coincidence!

Edited to say that I shouldn't answer the phone mid-post. :)

Yeah, that would make perfect sense :)

My daughter and I often shoot together and end up with some shots that are very similar. We're always careful, however, to make sure that what we submit is not related in any way.

For a great example of the effect you're noticing, have you seen the top two places in this challenge?

Wow, ribboning in the same challenge? That is skill :)

Anyone here in Guam want to come out shooting with me?...LOL

Thanks for the link. Those are a couple of great shots.

During this challenge period 3 of us DPC'rs and several friends addicted to film went to shoot together one Saturday morning. When I reviewed my shots from the month I chose one from that shoot. I was a little surprised to find another one from one of my shooting buddies taken in the same location....we haven't chatted since the get-together so we didn't enter our similar photos intentionally. PLEASE do not score us lower because you think it's one person "cheating"! (Besides, if someone were going to cheat, what would be the value in posting similar images? Wouldn't the "cheater" go to the trouble of trying to make voters believe that they were two different people, with two different styles?)

Oh, I am not voting any differently. I was mostly just curious if double accounts has been an issue at all.

It never even crossed my mind till reading these responses that people go shooting together..LOL Hey, it's only 7am.....my mind isn't all there yet ;)

Strange as it may seem .. some of us even live together .. go shooting together and still don't select pictures together and can end up very rarely with a similar shot, but I normally try to avoid that.

That's what the "Out and About" forum section is all about. It's been one of the best things about DPC for me this year--face-to-face is nice!

Here are examples from the "Rusted" challenge:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/213/thumb/74533.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/213/thumb/74533.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/213/thumb/74446.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/213/thumb/74446.jpg', '/') + 1) . '' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/213/thumb/74160.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/213/thumb/74160.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
(The reason I remember them so well is I couldn't believe that 3 people would choose the same subject back then. I was wrong.)

Yes. I have one account for submitting photos, and a second account for giving everyone else 1's

Isn't this the norm?

Why? Didn't you like the "2" I gave you? (It was for 2nd best.)

Yes, that is in fact the standard account configuration for ex-members : )

Just to reiterate:

Yes. I have one account for submitting photos, and a second account for giving everyone else 1's

Isn't this the norm?

(P.S. This is the 1's account to clarify)

Me and Larus once went shooting a soccer match together for the sports II challenge this summer and ended up submitting quite similar shots - though it wasn't really intentional.
I ended up in 4th place and Larus in 2nd place.

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/357/thumb/202739.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/357/thumb/202739.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
Larus's.

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/357/thumb/202789.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/357/thumb/202789.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
Mine.

And yes, some people thought me and Larus were one person having two accounts because of the similarity of the shots.

Doesn't surprise me that this has happened to other people as well.

If you suspect that a user has more than one account you can report it to the Admins/SC and let them investigate.

So I have been a member since 2004. Now my wife is getting interested in photography and I have set up an account for her and paid up her membership! Is this illegal now??

you mean we're not allowed to have more than one username?
