Okay, maybe this is a slight rant, but I have to ask....

Was it just the ring?? Did no one get the connection to the father/husband fantasy of superhuman abilities?? Did no one know that Superman WAS married to Lois Lane?? Couldn't you really overlook that for such an awesome fantasy depiction???

I mean, come on!! At least top 10, sheesh. It's like complaining about bugs bunny not really being a convincing girl bunny. you just want to shake someone and scream, "You're watching a cartoon where animals talk!!! Elmer Fudd just got shot in the face and he's still alive!! Who gives a crap about Bugs in drag!!"

I'm done.

Umm, not my picture, I wish.

Read the comments, Pug? Whole rafts of comments noting that superman was not married. Photographer's note tells why he included the ring. Wave's wondering, is THAT why the shot didn't ribbon? Cuz it looked like a ribbon to a lot of us. I think he's genuinely curious, it's not his picture after all :-)

The image as I mentioned in my comment is damn sharp focus wise and i reckon great technically ;) my question about the ring didn't have to do with my vote. Matter of fact this got a 9 from me. Yeah, i agree about this being a miss for Top 10.

The ring was not an issue for me .. in fact it added to the fantasy quite nicely...

I liked the concept a lot and scored it well.

What I did not like was the over saturation which blew out a lot of details and did not help the photo.

Everybody knows that the guy who got married in the 90's wasn't the real Superman. ;)

Some of the comments about the ring were positive, seeming to echo the photographer's remarks about it. I liked the shot and scored it high. As for the ring, I think it attracted more than it's share of attention because it doesn't quite fit with the rest of the image. Superman's shirt, the steel bars, and the hands look pretty smooth and cartoon like, as you might see in a comic book, but the ring has a lot of detail and looks more realistic. Perhaps a plain gold band would have allowed the entry to fare slightly better.

sometimes the position where an image finishes is not completely decided by the image itself. Let me dilate this,
lets say that this entery is wonderful, but some voters when they vote, they tend to fix how many 9s and 10s they are about to give. So in this case, if they find that there are other enteries which are better than this, they will end up giving it 5,6, 7 rather than 9, or 10. Your final score might be low, but it has come to the position it has to come as compared with others.

I agree with ring part though.

I would assume that Superman's wedding ring was made of Kryptonite to render him as powerless as the rest of us married guys. Would make it easier for Lois to keep her man under her thumb...

I did comment regarding the wedding band, however I still thought the shot was excellent and scored it accordingly.

Wow, never though I'd get a thread started about one of my photos! :)

It's nice to hear that many of you think it should have placed higher. I was hoping for a top 10, but I'm still happy with how it finished. It's only my 4th challenge on this site, so I have nothing to complain about. The quality of photographers on this site is nothing short of amazing.

It would be interesting to see how this would have finished sans ring, though. I know many people did appreciate it, and I personally like the extra twist it added to the photo. The ring never leaves my finger, even when I'm out in the garage, elbow deap in my engine bay, so it was only right for it to be in my photo as well :)

Anyway, thanks for your kind comments. The idea of a Kryptonite ring does seem rather fitting ;)

I didn't even notice the ring, or if I did it didn't make an imapct on me. I gave it a 9. I would have given it a 10 but the suit seemed a little too fake to me.

This image actually made me look up if Superman was ever married, so I not only liked the picture I learned something new. But I agree fantasy...

It was the ring of oversaturation. I scored it fairly high, not caring much about the ring, but the colors were so saturated that alot of detail was lost, I realise that the goal was a comic book look of simple blocks of color, but this came too close to the display limits.

Yes I made the comment "is Superman married?" and in fact, I did so knowing that he was in some storylines. However, none of that had any reflection in my vote.

Your shot was oversaturated with the red, and that made it less clear and clean to the eye. I gave it a 5. I might have given it a 6 had I not just seen this shot

284578

Which was very crisp and clean. Conveyed much more of the message that I believe you were trying to convey. It scored a 7th place. I am surprised you actually got a 13th place, as the over-saturation of the reds was very pronounced. I think people appreciated the concept and the composition (which were good).

(regarding the ring, I did not take any points off but did comment. Yes, Superman is married to Louis Lane when he gets older. But he's not commonly seen as such. And I doubt he'd wear such as Superman as it would point out he had a wife and endanger his wife by such a revelation. Besides....the ring would be destroyed in most of his battles.)

Not to pick on the image but to answer your question...I think the image is super crazy, saturated and the color on the fingers would have been something I would have taken points away from...if I had voted.

IMHO...not close to ribbon material.

EDIT: I should add that if I knew the photographer had intentionally chose his degree of saturation...I may have given back the points but in an anonymous vote it's impossible to discern intent from error.

I didn't vote, but I would have given it a 4 -- the colors are whacked, and it's not compositionally strong enough to hold my attention for too long. I probably wouldn't notice the ring before I clicked 4 and moved on.

Now that I actually have looked at the photo even closer....it looks as if the Superman torso part is a photo or poster or some other art and the hands and steel are the only real 3d parts.

Is this the case?
