I do fall under the Verizon Business now. Was MCI a couple of weeks ago. Now time to wait and see if I still have a job after a few more weeks. Need to get some more lenses to go with my new camera. Can't be getting laid off right now. :S

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

I'm every bit as reticient and slow-spoken in real life as I am in here :-)

433 posts since Sept 2003. I consider that being quiet. Reminds me of a tv commercial about Canadian elections. "Why not speak up when everyone is listening".

I'm just naturally quiet, online and in real life, but I manage to keep people engaged during a conversation.

i think the only thing i was able to be helpful with, was when someone was shipping to Canada, but then people kinda would talk around my posts from what i remember, and not really acknowledge them.

man, i sound so needy in that last paragraph, but i guess what i mean is that in a message board, you sort of expect some interaction, and on this particular one, i don't seem to fit in.

ok, NOW i just sound like an emotional high schooler, but still. haha

*laughs* I know exactly how you feel! Like you're an outsider sometimes. Glad to see you posting.. and you have some wonderful images! :)

I have not posted very much in the forums and when I do I’m forcing myself to. We the “understated” or “wall flowers” like to sit back and observe. Then we react, no need for discussion just do. I ask myself questions as do those who post all the time, why are people getting that serious in a thread… is it affecting any of their lively hoods what someone else typed? Is it really that serious? And I want a name change from wall flowers to listeners…

Oh, yes! If I hadn't been so busy bursting out laughing - but had stopped to THINK, instead - I would have agreed.

That was a trick statement, Robert!!

Some of you are so talented at shredding haughty people (saw some of this going on a few days back)...I just sit back and laugh.
I am practicing being sweet. (halo)

Hi all - I've been reading the forum threads more and more and posting more and more also - mostly just to praise somebody who is sharing their work if I really like it - and to learn how to leave all those cute smiley's that people either love or hate.
I'm usually pretty quiet - but thought it would be easy to post a reply to this thread....and....
I've been curious and thought this would be a good time to ask - since I don't really know the proper etiquette sometimes for posting questions - or starting threads and all that jazz....
What is the deal with the stats concerning threads on your profile page? Is this really a numbers thing that people keep track of? My profile has been saying I've killed 1 thread...is that because I was the last to post to a thread? is that bad? or good? or doesn't matter? - what if somebody else were to post to that thread - does that killed thread number go away? what's the deal with killed threads - are they killed forever? or is that when they are locked?
I'd really appreciate a quick little forum thread stats info. tutorial to anybody willing to inform :)
Was here OK to ask that? I think so - my apologies if not.
Thanks! Shannon :)
(here is where I would post one of those cute smiley guys - probably one waving - but I know some people don't like them - so I'm scared to - and won't)

Sounds like the source-quote for my dad's favorite warning: "Caution! Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear!"

The thread stats in general are a way to gauge peoples' activity on the site. To a certain extent they are meaningless, because there's all sorts of different activity, if you know what I mean? Some people do seem to take them seriously, but I certainly don't, except in the sense that I look at my own stats and think, very seriously, "Brother Bear, you need to get a life!" :-)

"Threads Killed" is a by-popular-demand novelty stat. It really has no meaning except what you have divined, that you made the last post in a thread. If you START a thread and nobody responds, you'll have both a start and a kill with a single post. If someone comes into a thread long after you've killed it and posts to it again, then yes, you will "lose" a kill.

I like to look at "kills" as a positive stat; by and large, a kill means you answered the question, nothing more to say, ya know? I certainly don't view them as negative; I don't think very many people are capable of boring us off a thread.

Yes it was perfectly OK to ask all that :-) The only dumb questions are the ones you do not ask.

Robt.
