I am looking to get some new lenses, and I think even with the import tax it's going to be cheapest from B&H rather than buying local.
Does any body here have experience with them shipping to Europe? Import tax, After-care?
I'm also concerned about sending them a copy of my credit card which they require for a first time purchase, as they suggest sending it by email, which would be un-encrypted. I might be able to fax it from work, but not to sure about it.

I bought a tamron 28-75 from ac-foto.de and the price (lens+ship) was about the same as bhphotovideo.

| I've used B&H a few times and as you may expect I have always been taxed as the package goes though customs when Importing in to the UK. In the past I have chosen to have the items shipped by UPS, who have always been stunningly quick. As for aftercare I wouldn't know, because I have never had the need to find out. From my experiences I would fully recommend B&H. |

Hi,
I bought a second hand 18-55 and a canon backpack from B&H. They were sent separately, so I got clobbered for two lots of import duty and tax (but to be fair they do say thats a possibility if you read the small print.)
The problem I found was that B&H over valued the goods, by about $100, but paid VAT and duty for the FULL amount on two separate packages. So I paid far more duty than i thought fair, which REALLY didnt make it worth while. UPS pay the duty + VAT in advance so there is no getting around it, and when I complained about being overcharged I didnt get anywhere, UPS were alwful about it and B&H never replied after numerous emails. Once bitten twice shy I'm afraid! |

Thanks for comments so far.
What sort of tax would I expect to pay on a couple of lenses with a total value of 229euros?
And Federico did you use the Cash on delivery service with ac-foto? I've had a look at them, but they seems quite a bit more expencive (70 Euros) unless its going to outweigh the import tax from the states.

I've bought 2 cameras, 6 lenses, 3 flashes and some other stufff from B&H, I live in Iceland so I think I qualify for Europe ;)
you might want to check Adorama to, they are just as reliable but shipping is a lot lower that from B&H.
I just bought a used EOS 1V from Adorama, it was flawless, $956 for the camera and $44 for 2-3day UPS.
B&H had a used EOS 1V to, it was $989 and shipping was $262 for 2-3day UPS.
so I went with Adorama

| I payed with credit card. But since I have a business I was able to deduct german VAT from the price so I paid -16% of the total. |

I live in Portugal and used B&H a couple of times. If you are going to use a credit card, they ask for a scanned copy of it... even after charging the money, they still hold the order when waiting for the damn copy!!!
The first time, I paid 6.7% costums and 15% VAT... the second order I was charged 3% costums and 15% VAT. Don't ask... I don't know why. Both times the packages stayed over a month in costums.
Now I try to avoid the U.S. I currently use computer universe (germany) or the European Ebay.
Nevertheless I liked using B&H. I never had any problems with the actual items and they even sent a nice B&H product catalog |
