I already know which shots are probably going to win...but it's all about the best of the best....if it's technically correct isn't it the best? if that makes any since i don't know...just my opinion though!

I don't think that technically correct implies the best. Art by it's nature is subjective and if a photo conveys emotion, feeling or even "Wow" then that is an important consideration. Technically correct should eliminate a photo from the "bad" category but not necessarily push it in to the "good" category.

Guys...I went completely outside the box with my photo and thought it would get better scores than the 4.9 its getting now. Its amazing how fickle people are on this site. They ask you to push the envelop, then put it down because you did.

Not to imply I'm refering to YOUR photo but there is a great difference between OoF and soft focus and/or DPC has never been keen on abstract/flower/baby/cats/dogs/macro/kids/cars/sunsets/moonsets/sunrise/etc... :D

Oh i know that, mine is out of the ordinary and doesn't include any of the subjects you mentioned.

Nice to be included, still strangely quiet! I guess that's what I get seeing how I'm barey 50% done voting and haven't even started commenting yet!
There are some amazing shots worthy of the 10's, but one has to wonder what some people were thinking. I guess some are "personal" bests of 2005. This is way too much fun. Just wish I had more time to enjoy the work of it all.

Due to the exceptionally low number of comments I've received (in relation to others that have posted here) I now have extreme major fears that my score hovers, at best, near 5.

And there's still time to guess my score and win a membership. In the immortal words of Bluto, "it don't cost nuthin". Contestants now number 7!

I think you're short changing yourself aagain. Seems whatever scores you have always predicted for yourself were lower than what you actually received. I'm guessing yoiur score at 8pmish Friday night will be at a 7.042

I wonder, ...how will images that existed in portfolios and had existing comments and favs be combined with their new Best of 2005 counterpart? Any ideas?

ETA:
First run of Bumps & Dumps completed (which only included reviewing the 6-10s). I need to go through the 4 and 5s next. That's an intimidating prospect at the moment, so I'm procrastinating.

So far I've voted:
8 10s
11 9s
16 8s
24 7s
166 6s
416 5s
154 4s
28 3s
7 2s
3 1s

Just needed to get proof somewhere. I haven't touched a "5" until just now. My picture is 'pretty' good, but golly... Some great stuff out there.

Like trying to break 100 in my golf game...I am still trying to break a 5...

No mind though--I just really enjoy trying. Besides, I liked the image I submitted for the challenge and that's all that really matters.

If the challenge ended now, my score for Best of 2005 would be my Second Best of 2005.

Somehow that's kind of funny. If your currently highest-scoring image is from 2005, then the Best of 2005 should be even higher, right? Because... your Best of 2005 is better than everything else you've done this year?

Oh good gawd! My score has risen from the ashes! Not really where I was hoping it would be but I'll take this over my previous scores. I guess I already broke my New year's resolution of not entering a sub-6 image.

Best of 2004 won with just over a 7 score, I'm betting it's going to take an 8 to win this time. I'm not even half way done voting and can see a few that will reach an 8. Not me, but I'm doing well and pedict I will be in the top 25.

I'm half way through voting. I don't think there has ever been a challenge with this many photos before, I didn't realise we had so many members here! Some really good photos there, impressive, but a lot have me thinking if they are really the BEST that were taken in 2005 or if they were something taken quickly just to get something in for the challenge. For me there is some excellent work there but there is also a lot of rubbishy stuff there. I don't want to sound harsh here but really, this is the best of 2005, the best photos you took for the whole year!

My score has been steadily rising since the start of voting. Usually with other challenges it would rise and fall all over the place during voting. Not this time. It has only risen. I'm happy with my score and hope it continues to rise!

My score is only 5.3 but I have recieved 4 really great comments, so thats better than any score..

When I first read the challenge I thought it was only for photos that had ribboned in 2005. Where's the Best of the Best 2005 challenge? How cool would it be giving 5's to really good images only because they are only 5's in this particular challenge? Or would you give only 9's and 10's and the winner produces something that resembles a score a gymnast would get?

Day 4 voting is over and not only has my own score continued to scratch its way toward 6.0 (5.95), but on the 227th entry I found my first 10! yaaaaa...

240 pictures down. I left the lucky entrant a comment.

I was really hoping to hit a 6.0 on this shot. In my opinion it was at least an 8 (if it were someone else's shot, that's how I would have voted).
There are some nice comments - but only one made a suggestion on improving it.

Though, it has taken a turn upward, I think it will stay around this score. I just can't break out of mediocrity.

You have an impessive list of ribbons and I guess that makes you an expert. Maybe some of the entries are the BEST that members took in 2005. Calling them rubbish is demeaning to the people that tried

There are some aspiring photographers here, some as young as 5 years old, and possibly younger? There is also a group of mentally disabled adults who seem to get a great deal of joy from digital photography.

I fear that in weeding out the schmucks by criticizing anonymous entries, we will be "throwing out the baby with the bath water"...so to speak.
