Hi,

I have been getting good responses from my photos on a local level. Everyone who sees them WOWS at me, but I live in a small town. With that, I would love the opinions from people beyond. Tell me what you think of my website and photos, please : ) //www.everydayrenee.com

Any critique good, bad or indifferent will be valuable for me.

Thank you for your time,
Renee

Stunning, some really nice stuff here. My favourite is the insect with huge bulging eyes and large wings. My only criticism is that I think you need to work on your composition a little... everything is too centred for my taste. I love the sky in the picture of the day, but again the cropping puts me off a little. I can't work out if it's supposed to be centred as it's just off, I would have prefered the moon at the most 1/3 from the left.

Thank you for your input. I completely agree with you. I am aware of it, but fail to remember when I am snapping away.

I also forget I can crop images once I have taken them. I am always trying to take the perfect photo as is...which is silly. Cropping is a valuable tool!

Thanks!

Hi Renee,

just had a quick look at your website. I think you have a great deal of potential. Another angle on Bob's comments is that you seem to put a natural symmetry into your work which is far from a bad thing IMHO. I like the diversity of your work.
Look forward to seeing more of it here.

Cheers,

Todd.

Renee, I loved the pics and your photo concept of keeping it "natural" with out using color filters and such. I try to do the same unless I really want a different look or I messed up the shot totally and can save it by making some changes to the color.

The web site is nice also, it has a good layout and easy to navigate.

1 - Don't "snap." Capture. If you get one good photo each time you went out for a walk, you'd have a slew of photos. If you snap and snap away, you may not get anything for a long time. Patience is a virtue. I've had to practice it more than I've had to practice taking photos.

2 - Forget about cropping as much as you can. Develop your skills to take the best pictures. Then you can crop in PS of course. But practice your composition. It takes time and pateince.

3 - Your photos are ok. They're not pro stuff. But you may sell some at craft shows or online. But if it's a hobby, try not to worry about selling them. Focus your time and efforts on composition, lighting and shadows, angles, ... Try to see things differently. Everyone has ones and can see flowers and beaches, but very few take the time to get a different view of the sand on the beach or the single drop of dew on the flower. People don't take the time to stop and smell the roses or see them differently. If YOU do, you will get better. And you'll know it because people will stop saying "i like your photos" and people will start saying "i want your photo$." :)

Hope this helps,

Dave

D2frette had some good points. It's really hard to break through from the "I like it," to the "I'll buy it" categories. I also agree with the idea of creativity, of seeing the scene and subject differently. I think a good example of that is your photo "Towering Oak." Patience and practice, patience and practice.
