When you go out near sunset during thunderstorms to get a great beach shot and as you jog down the trail in the thick mud to the beach, you slide and fall into poison oak and all you can think of is trying to hold your camera up so it doesn't get mud on it.

When the wife told you 3 weeks ago that dinner was ready, then she said its in the dustbin, then she said shes going out, then she said ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?, then she packed all her bags and took the kids to her mothers, then she called you 74 times and on the 75th time you answer and say "Sorry I was setting up a shot".

when your children see anything scenic and naturally sit in front of it prefectly posed and smiling for their shot...

Or the children are in the car and see something they think is cool and say pull over for a picture (and the are only 3&5 years old)

When you're driving home from the hospital, after spending all night (about 14 hours) with your son in the ER...after he broke his arm in three places...and have to stop along the way to take pictures because the sunrise is creating an absolutely beautiful silhouette for the challenge that week. Not that I would know anything about anyone doing that sort of thing. No. Not me. ;)

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but this thread reminds me of the old photographer's joke:

Question on a photojournalist job interview for a famous newspaper:

You're walking along a pier on a clear day, at around sunset. Suddenly you see a little girl drowning, calling for help in the water. In that case,

Here are a couple that I've learned in the past few days...

Your significant other, who *adores* photography (and WORKS at Canon), gets so sick of hearing about photos/cameras/challenges/current scores/shots/photography in general, that he sighs and leaves you standing alone in the grocery store... and checks out... and loads the car... before you notice he's left because you're searching for a good photography magazine and looking at artsy magazines for ideas.

You tell your S.O. that you'll be to bed in a minute, and then 4 hours later you verrryy carefully creep into bed. When he mumbles, "That was a long minute..." You say, "I had to pee..."

You close/lock your bedroom door when you want to change clothes, (and have kids that often bust in without knocking), and you jump online to check scores... and end up on DPC for 20 mins. When someone knocks, you get up and open the door and they groan because you haven't even started changing.

All three of these have happened to me really recently... *sheepish* :)
