While I am not really horrified at this thread, I fail to see what point the OP is trying to make.
Some people vote high, some people vote low, so what?
Most, if not all, of the generalizations posters have tried to make about people with a low avegae vote cast are totally unsupported, just wild guesses at best.
What I find more offensive is the way some posters have tried to cast voters in a negative light based on their average. Go back and read over the entire thread and you will see that some people have said some pretty meaningless, and even stupid, things about other users just because their average vote cast doesn't measure up to the poster's own personal idea of what it should be.
Trying to goad people into voting higher by attacking them for a low average is one way to try to raise your scores (along with everyone else's). A better way to raise your own scores is to enter better quality photos.

As alluded to earlier in this thread, what seems unsportsmanlike is the refusal to offer comments when voting very low.
Being new to the site, I've been trying to read the rules carefully and I've also noticed that rule-sticklers abound (dnmc etc). So it strikes me as odd that the following request in the challenge rules (quoted below) is widely ignored by those dealing out the lowest votes:
"If you feel a photograph deserves a vote of 1, 2 or 3, please include a comment with your vote explaining why you felt it deserved a "below average" score."
If a hypothetical person has a 3 average after thousands of votes and has offered drastically, drastically fewer comments, well, frankly, the word weasel comes to mind. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. ;-)
Those giving super-low scores + comments are at least taking responsibility and offering some rationale for their skew. |
