I am starting to think that Magnetic is the smartest person on DPC.

Mine generally start low and by mid week peak about 0.5 to 1.0 above. This entry may not even break 5 I fear.

'GROSS'. That was the comment I recieved. Nothing more. Normally I don't discuss much in the forums especially on comments and scores. However, this comment to me is not appropriate. My entry is sharp, in focus, and on topic ( though I did not set anything on fire ). It is not that the person did not like my photo even that disturbs me. I am fairly new to photography less than 6 months, and I do not see how this comment is suppose to help me improve my skills. It gives me no specifics as to what is 'gross' or why.
I too am contemplating not entering much more, the last 2 challenges have not been very objective. Especially in terms of not distinguishing subjects choices (i.e. model) vs. photography skill, added to comments like that which, IMO are distasteful at best.

About a month back, there was a huge drive to get everybody to comment on as many pictures as they could. I wonder if this has anything to do with the low morale here, as many people seem to be submitting comments which can best be described as brief and not very helpful.
I think some people would still maintain that it is better to have a comment that says 'GROSS' than none at all. I disagree, and would rather that people spent the same amount of time giving longer comments to fewer people. What is everyone else's opinion?
EDIT: If you don't get many comments, you know your photo is boring, and you need to work to make it more interesting and eye-catching!

That's unfortunate ellamay. At least at the end of the challenge this person will not be anonymous and they'll be seen for what they are. Cheers.

Some people send comments like that but then there are those that send helpful comment like telling you how to fix something that wasn't quite the way they thought it should be and then with as many people as vote
on these challenges there are different opinions, sometimes somone will
tell you something is wrong and another will say that's what they like about the photo. Once I got a comment that just said HAHA I've lived through it so don't give up

thanks boblobster for reminding me that in previous challenge I recieved 2 very lengthy well thought through comments, which I really did appreciate. I have entered 8-10 challenges so far and this was my only IMO offensive and rude comment. Maybe I should consider myself lucky : ).
I mostly agree with your 'any press is better than no press' comment for the most part, but I think if you are going to slam a photo you should be courageous enough to say why.
Short vs. long-- well some folks can say a lot in a few words and others can say very little with many words-- so I am not sure length alone matters. Thanks for response anyway.

Thanks for your encouragements, and despite the comment I quite like my shot. I do plan to comment more directly to person after voting.

Doesn't look like I'm gonna break 5 this time. Just wish someone would give me some insight into why my entry is so crappy. Has anyone else gotten little in the way of comments thus far?

How about 75 of 91 users and ZERO Comments.

I'm amazed. I'm actually sitting on my highest score so far. Perhaps I am improving! ;P
