There is only one 'correct' way to control erroneous or aberrant social behavior : education.

I wonder how long it would take for a muslim fundamentalist making similar remarks to be banned from the airwaves...

Given that GWB had to be held back from bombing Al Jazeera (a moderate and well respected news channel), it is hard to believe that the tolerance being demonstrated is purely constitutional in nature.

As has been mentioned, any freedom of speech has to have limits. Shouting "fire" in a theatre is one example, and in many societies inciting racial hatred (for example) is prohibited. As I said much earlier, the trick is knowing how and where to draw the line.

They would probably be taken off the air by the owner of the station because they could not get advertising for the program and the show would not be profitable. Same reason "Golden Girls" is no longer on TV. I would argue that they have every right to be on the air until they break a law.

My favorite of his of late was his castigation of Dover Pennsylvania for "abandoning God" after the recent trail over "inteligent design". Telling them to not bother calling on God when a disaster hits then since they have turned their back on him. This is a town that has ten chuches to serve a population of just under two thousand people, and which banns the sale of alcohol within the city borders. If God is angry at these folks my town is in serious dodo.

Thus if Moyer had Liberal bias he was not doing his job properly and deserved to be fired.

Much different case then the Robertson issue.

Moyers was doing his job just fine and didn't deserve to be fired. You are allowed to have liberal or conservative views on public broadcasting but it's not acceptable for the government in power to be influencing what you are watching or listening to, as may have been the case here with Tomlinson attempting to bias the programing. They didn't like Moyers because he was talking truth to power and Tomlinson has White House connections. He also put Republican party activists and lobbyists in prominent roles in the organization.

Which air? If it is his own broadcasting network, no way to get him off until he decides to go of his own will. If it is network rebroadcast of his own network, then shame on them. If it is network broadcast of original statement, again, shame on them.

If you complain repeatedly to the FCC you may get him off. But I am sure he has enough clout to avoid that.

Your best chance is to complain repeatedly to the advertisers who subsidize his broadcasts. That worked in the case of that asshole maher. Money does talk.

I don't know anything about Moyer, but if he feels he was fired for the wrong reasons he should file an EEO complaint and sue the pants off PBS. That's what the EEO is there for. If he doesn't file a complaint, obviously he does not think he was wrongly fired.

But again, a boss firing someone and the government regulating what people can say are two very different things.

I wish there was more sex, violence, calls to overthrow the government, religous freaks, etc....etc....

I would even like to have muslim fundamentalists on the air talking about Jihad etc...

Why?

Because in a free society, it's the ability to distribute information and access to that information and freedom of choice to listen and act on that information that allows a society to move in a direction of self determination.

If a nutcase gets on T.V and says go kill people at abortion clinics ..its the nut that listens to him that is to blame. If a nut gets on T.V ans says "I voted for the war before I voted against it"..then the idiots that think that is reasonable are to blame for their being dumb enough to believe it.

If a loon gets on T.V and says "Harriet Myers is the best candidate for the supreme court" people who believe that have the problem :-D

See....there is crazy crap everywhere..thank god....
