This is ever so depressing. I suppose my knack isn't at this sort of thing. Seems I'm excelling in my every day photography and improving on that, but here it just doesn't matter. I have no idea what people look for here since nobody leaves comments.

The only 2 comments are positive. One of them has one suggestion. I am being a sour puss about it I know...just frustrating.
Did a little math...last night like i said my scores were mainly 6's and 7's. too bring my average down voters were giving me an average of 4.46 lol
I think I gave out 3 or 4 4's the entire challenge after voting on every entry. I love it :)

Mine is doing a 5 presently. Dropped from a 5.7, but after seeing the other shots submitted, I'm surprised it is still at a 5. Mine is nice and all, but can't hold a candle to some of the others. But I am definately happy with a 5.

My only regret is that I pulled my original entry at the last minute thinking it wouldn't work, but then I saw a similar shot to my original in there. Not sure it is working for them, but I kind of wish I had just kept my original. LOL....

Hmm, it seems they thought exactly what I did about my shot. I didnt like it, but it was the only "shapes" shot I was able to grab in a hectic week. Oh well, maybe it will move to a Poop.15 later

One thing I think the site should really take into consideration is if someone scores a 3,2, or 1 they MUST comment as to why.

"Users are highly encouraged to leave comments on a photograph by using the comment box under each photograph. Criticism, praise, and other constructive comments are all welcome. Blatantly slanderous, rude, or profane comments may be removed, and the owners of such comments may be suspended or lose their accounts. If you feel a photograph deserves a vote of 1, 2 or 3, please include a comment with your vote explaining why you felt it deserved a "below average" score."
By doing this maybe it could prevent some of the rediculous voters. I am relativley new and this is the first time I have experienced seeing the "trolls" so obviously. but to me it seems obvious some people are sad enough to vote people as low as possible to better their own scores. But if comments had to be made I think and almost guarantee they would change their mind on their scores.

I was wondering....for the photos that finish the week with a 7.xxxx, and maybe ribbon how do they avoid the trolls or the evil people voting down other contestants?

All I am saying, everybody here sees the same voters so don't get too frustrated with low scores...just learn from the vibe you get from your photo and change your appoach to attract more DP Challenge voters next time..that's sorta the challenge anyway :-)

You have rated 366 of 367 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 25 images (6%) in this challenge.

****sigh****
Started out strong (for me) with a 5.7 this morning....my highest ever since joining DPC in November. This morning, dropped down to a 4.7.
I've put the most effort into this shot in particular, so I'm a little discouraged....
Oh well....time to go back to work and not dwell on the score! (I say that, but I'll be back shortly....)

:)

You can comment a picture as being great, amazing shot..too good, I expect it to ribbon while thinking to yourself *and I won't let you ribbon since I have a chance so here is a 2*

Trolls will do what they want to do, but eventually I have seen good pictures being in the top 10, some well deserving pictures do end up lower but are still in a respectable position. Luckily number of people who sincerely vote outnumbers the trolls (or so I am assuming)

yes everyone recieves the same voters...BUT why not make someone accountable. A 3, 2, or 1 IMO and according to the website as well deserves a comment, and is a picture that needs improvements. If someone really feels like the photo deserves that score they should be responsible to take 30 seconds of their time and let the person know how to improve their shots, or atleast let them know what they do not like about the photo. I have climbed almost back to a 5.4 and I believe it will climb back up (cross my fingers), but as posted there are many people with very low scores that just get more and more frustrated when their average is a 3.8 and nobody tells them as to why. Not only is it no fair, but is just poor business for DPC. I hope that is not taken in the wrong way at all. By that i just mean that this scenario may have a strong impact on why people may not decide on a full membership or may go to another site.
I just think it is a little change that could make big differences.

Thats what so cool about this site....it's a mixed bag...people voting low, people voting high, people block voting, people throwing darts at boards, people taking all week to carefully consider each photo..you get it all..just like life :-)

Still dropping!

I'm voting on the concept that the shape is supposed to be the most important aspect of the photo. I usually just leave positive comments on images that I score highly. Low scores usually go to super small images, where I can't see the detail, or badly focused images...I don't want to leave snide comments and ruin somebody's day. They'll figure it out eventually. I'll leave the technical comments to somebody who qualifies. ;)

This has been discussed thousands of times. Check the website suggestions forum if you're curious, but there's some really good reasons not to do it, chief among them is that you'll get people who leave comments like "fjdskf"

Understandable, and a simple solution would be a disqualification from voting. If what i suggested would be a rule, then it would be just like disqualifying a photo, except a voter. I understand there would be additional work involved. But I believe the benefit would be worth it for the company, and I would be more then happy to help out carrying some of the workload.

I can see this point. Maybe make it an option for the person recieving the comment to suggest voter disqualification due to inadequate comment. But require it to be a valid complaint and only for those that just put "fksdk" or such. ANY comment that has validity can be used, whether to just boost an ego, or to tell someone a fault. How long does it actually take to put "needs more color 2" or such?

Some very very critical voters this time around.

a) all votes were high in the early AM
b) come morning, many are down 1-2 pts

But no worry, this seems to be an "across" the board thing. And it might bounce back up in the coming days!
