I haven't entered the nude challenge but I have entered the night out challenge and received next to no comments as well.

very tempted to post "model too thin" on every pic...but I stopped myself in time.

| Mine dropped also... was 26 votes for 5.65. Now it's 28 votes for 5.57 (still no comments). So that means the last 2 people that voted gave me a 4 and 5. They obviously have no taste. :D |

| mine's just hanging above a 5. My shot is personal and very meaningful to me (otherwise i wouldn't have taken a nude photo for no reason). Unfortunately, people don't understand the meaning in it and are more just thinking of it as humor, when it isn't supposed to be humorous at all, but I can definetely see how it would be taken that way. Well, i've probablly said too much. We're not supposed to talk about these things yet. Feel free to edit this post out mods. Anyway, I think the important thing is that people are happy with their own shots and I'd like to thank all of the people brave enough to submit photos to the competition. I found them enjoyable to vote on and thought there were some really high class pieces of art. |

Give it some time. The voting started less than three hours ago. People often will vote on all the photos and come back later to leave comments. Give it time. ;-)

I have noticed at least two or three where that is not the case. Although I am cynical enough to believe that they are not going to win the competition, because of that very fact.
It is a sad world. (go on, DPC! prove me wrong!)

This is exactly my voting habit. I only comment first time round when I really want to say something. I suppose I feel that I need to get my 20% finished, then I can relax a bit. |

As for the 'whining' that big people won't get good marks, I would just like to add that photography is about esthetics and is per definition visual.
People in all ages and all cultures had certain ideals for people's looks. In ancient times those ideals features bigger people (sign of fertility etc), in our times it's rather the thinner people. We're kind of conditioned on that I guess.
So don't judge people just because they prefer thinner people on the pictures. There may be great pics featuring thin people, there may be great pics featuring bigger people, it all depends on the composition of the picture!
And to a certain degree everyone's responsible for his own body!
I'm sorry, but I had to vent ;)
ps. I have great respect for everybody entering this challenge! But don't get immediately upset if you don't get the score you wanted. You should have enough self-confidence to weather that :) |

This is very true. The appreciation of photography is also a largely subjective criterion, however. Which means that the beliefs of what is beautiful or not is largely imposed on people's tastes by their social and cultural nurture.
My "whine" was more a sigh (and a kick to the shins) of society as a whole, and the way people are spoonfed bone-skinny "beauties" from birth, rather than a critique of the voting population of DPC.

I agree. Extremes are rarely good, and neither the bone-skinny nor the obese are healthy. Luckily most are in between those extremes.
Anyway, DPC isn't the place to discuss sociology etc ;) |

I just voted on the Nude challenge and I have to say that all my highest marks were for female subjects. But these images were not only the most asthetically pleasing but the best technically and "appeared" to have little post processing; I don't see the point of over processing. It seems the flavour of the week is adding noise.
*edit For the most part the quality of the images in this challenge were better than most in recent memory.

Okay, I've rated 41 of the nudes (had to quit cause the light is coming in above my monitor and it messes up my ability to see the photos accurately).
I didn't comment on all of the images but I did comment on many of them. Some were quite beautiful, others were somewhat uninspired (by my opinion only of course). I love to look at the human body and some of these shots simply didn't touch me. I did, however, give one 10 for a shot I think was simply fabulous. Well composed, excellently lit, fabulously exposed....there were lots of those. The 10 shot also had an emotional connection in it that was breathtaking.
Congrats to all who entered (I won't tell you how poorly my shot is doing. I think I did it as an exercise in self-flaggilation). Humans are tough to photograph and tougher still in the nude.

my score is doing pretty well. to spare myself the agony of watching it inevitably decrease, I think I will avoid the site for the rest of the week !!!

I hadn't voted in about two weeks ... away on vacation. What a great job people did on these shots. Most were pretty classy.

LOL yeah there weren't to many real women used now was there? Not that I scored and photos low but one photo stands out that was simply stunning cause it wasn't a photo of a toothpick and it was very natural. |

This is a challenge on nude figures.. therefore it should be more about lighting and expression rather than a beauty contest. :P
