As mentioned in the forums, the extra rules bit for the Best of 2005 challenge now clarifies that the photograph you enter must have been taken on or between January 1 and December 31, 2005. As well, the agreement checkbox now reflects the appropriate year.

When I refreshed the page and noticed the green stripe, your name was under the "Posted By" column. My first thought was that all your posts, Robert, were to be highlighted from now on.

edit: stupid spelling mistake

OMG no, that would look CHAOTIC! Works well for admin forum, to be sure people notice it, though.

IMO of course :-)

Wonder if I could submit one that has been sitting in my portfolio for a few months?

As long as it wasn't used in a challenge, yes.

It's recommended that you hide it if you do use it though, but there's no rule against it. You just can't highlight it in the forums and talk about it.

Thanks Glen. I have hidden it. I don't want to make anyone mad right. :-)

Langdon, the stripe is cool -- but could you add it to the 'active in last 24 hours' list on the Community page as well? Much appreciated.

I have uploaded my entry but what happens when my membership expires on the 15th. Do I still get to participate because I have already uploaded it?

Didn't realize the "no talking about in the forums" was an actual rule.

Kinda like an unwritten rule

Probably isn't an actual rule, but it is extremely likely you will get a nice collections of "ones" on your image as people really like anonymity.

Can you submit images you have already shown in the forums so long as they've not been submitted to a challenge?

Yeah, Just note that I've seen a pattern of people voting an image that they've already seen lower. They feel it breaks the anonyminity. Some day I'll learn how to spell that word. lol
01/01/2006 05:37:49 PM · #22
Remember that if you hide your photo in your portfolio, it won't show up in the thread that you posted it to.. and, hopefully, not too many people looked at it :)

Also, the trend of voting lower for images already seen didn't play as strongly in the Best of 2005 challenge.. at least as far as I noticed.

*EDIT* OOOOPS... sorry, I was wrong.. they do still show up in the thread.

If I am to understand this correctly, the unwritten rule is to use an image that is your Best of 2005, as long as nobody has seen it yet (on this site). Kind of a bummer. My "best of" has been viewed a bunch of times and listed by a few as their favorite. The irony being, I would not have considered it to be "my best" if I didn't post it on this site and get that type of positive input. Hmmm.... this kinda sucks. Why wouldn't people just vote for the best picture, period??

I wouldn't worry about it.. just hide it in your portfolio and, quietly, delete it from the forum thread you posted it in, and submit it anyway. With the vast amount of photos that will be in the challenge, people really aren't going to care if they saw it before.. or.. really.. even remember.

The "unwritten rule" about not having previously seen your photo is pretty lax for the Best Of challenge. I think most people are pretty understanding of the fact that many people use DPC to store and display their photos and that not posting your best photos because there may be a challenge at the end of the year is a bit unreasonable. I would suggest moving the entry temporarily to your Workshop folder so that it's not availble in your portfolio during the entry and voting period but think that anything that wasn't previously entered would be fine, whether or not it's been posted on DPC.
