I'm looking for some advice on a good bag to buy for my Camera. I have a Nikon D50, 2 lenses (28-80mm; 70-300), macro lens set, Remote Shutter release, and cords(usb and Video cable) I do also have a Nikon N55 body. I'd appreciate any advice on bags...currently using typical walmart brand....but can't afford high end prices either...maybe something with room to grow but again won't be growing too fast.

Thanks for your input!

I saw a Tamarac Expedition 3 bag at Ritz yesterday. It looks like a great bag with enough padding and room to take up everything you mentioned. I am sure you can find a cheaper deals online, at the link above it is $32.

do you want a sholderbag or a backpack ?

the bags from LowePro are great, and cheap.

I have the LowePro Nova 4 AW, it can hold my 5D, 24-70L, 70-200L, and a flash.
if I skip the 70-200L I can fit 2 other lenses in it's place.

and it has seperate compartements that can hold a few batterries, cf cards, filters and the manual :)

it's comfortable, compact, lightweight, strong, and it has an all weather cover.
LowePro Nova 4 AW

only $52.95 @ BH :)

I recently got a zoompack and so far am liking it. Okay it's got a few annoying issues but it's closer than anything else I have found that is still available.

Tell ya, Picking a bag is harder than the camera :-) I have basically given up on the universal bag concept and accept that I will no doubt end up with a couple for different things :-(.

thank you....I will go investigate the suggestions....I had decided I didn't like the 'generic' brand that I have....I've had too big (felt sloppy), currently too small (feel like it is crammed in with no specific compartments)....

As robs said I think it is abit harder finding a bag I like....

Thank you very much for pointing me in the right directions....I'll be 'shopping around' tonight.

My vote goes for LowePro Nova series. I myself got Nova 3 AW, it's fine for my D50 with lens attached + two smaller lenses or one big (liek 200mm). Plus the extra accessories of course. Like it a lot, although sometimes I wish it was a little bigger. So maybe Nova 4.. :)

I've had two LowePro bags (very reasonably priced) and loved both. I used a small one whose name escapes me for my old Olympus C-2100. It's been through hell and still looks almost new. I now have a MicroTrekker 200 for my D70. I only use it for fieldwork (I'm a geologist), hiking and certain travelling, as I prefer a shoulder bag (a Nikon one came with my camera, it's ok but not great) for general shooting (easier access), but when I do use it I love it. It's got really nice heavy duty zippers with leather covers on the internal ones so they don't jingle against your gear, lots of customizeable space (I've packed 2 bodies & 4 lenses plus other stuff) and an outer pocket that's great for non-photos stuff you want to bring along.

You might also consider the Lowspro Slingshot.
Santa brought me one and I'm very happy with it. It's basically a backpack which you can swing to the front and access your camera without taking it off.

I have just recently purchased the LowePro Nova 5 AW - room for 2 x slr, plenty of room for my lens - 1 x 75-300mm, 1 x 55mm, 1 x 28mm, 1 x 28-70mm, 1 x 18-55mm, 1 x 50mm f1.4 plus my Sigma flash, cf cards, lens cleaning kit, spare battery, remote release, easy to customise with the inserts supplied, it takes it all! Highly recommended.

Tamrac has an interesting modular system. So you basically buy cases for whatever lens, gadget, etc. you have and simply clip them onto the belt.

Great for hiking, etc. Though perhaps not as convenient when you want a small rectangular bag to store under your chair.

But it's great, if I am going to fotograph a band gig in a small venue, I know I wont need my 70-200mm so I just take the case off and go with my 50mm & 12-24mm. If I'm going to shoot outdoor nature shots I'll leave the flash at home in it's case.

a) I carry what I need
b) I can carry it all if I need
c) That which I leave behind remains safely in it's individual soft case

It's an alternative. I think, I'll like buy a large bag too. This will be more for weddings, etc.

dsmeth: Does the bag come with Nikon written on it instead of Canon?? :-0

Thanks again for all the ideas...I think I am kinda liking the Tamarac Expedition 3 look and want to go look for what theSaj is referring to as the modular system....

I have a Tamrac Expedition 5 that I just got, and I love it. I waited and bought it instead of the LowePro that was in the store at the time, because I felt it was better suited to my needs, and for the modular system Saj mentioned.

I also love the tamrac bags. Have used a Expedition 3 for 2 1/2 years or so, recently got their Digi bag for a bit more space. The modular pieces are great and work with any of their bags.

Personnally I like lowepro's and have been using them for years with no complaints (other then my current one is too small to carry more then 1 lens and a flash or 2 lenses and no flash)

I found this: //www.cambags.com/ in my quest for a new pack invaluable.

yes I think thats the bag I was using before, looks just like it, that bag was fine cause then I did not have that much equipment. I managed to stuff 1 big lens and 2 small ones with all my wires and everything in that bag.

I have that bag and like it pretty well. It's all a bit of a tight fit but I prefer it that way so things don't go sliding around.

I fit my d70, 38-80 lens, 70-300 lens, 20GB portable storage drive, card reader, ac adapter, lens filters, extra battery, cleaning supplies and all my cables in it with a few pockets to spare.

no real complaints here but if I get more lenses I'll need a bigger bag.

Hey, this might be old news to many, but I just found a very helpful (although not so wonderfully designed) site with all sorts of camera bag reviews. So I have to share :)

It shows several pictures of just about all the major brands in one place. Camera bag review pages

I'm going to use it to look at the camera bag suggestions posted on this thread.

Thank you for all the suggestions. My Tamarac Expedition 3 arrived yesterday. I LOVE it. Thanks for the help!
