Just curious - If you submit in one of the two open challenges, do you tend to vote on the challenge you submitted in, the challenge you didn't submit in, or both?

I have taken to voting on the challenge I didn't submit in, bc I don't think I even want to know about all the other fabulous entries (read: competition).

What about the rest of you?

It certainly can be an intriquing question. Usually there is a good debate or two comes around on this subject once in a while. Using the forum 'Search' with phrase 'vote biased' brought up a handful of prior threads...including this one. ;^)

Recently I haven't voted much at all as I've not been able to get a connection much better than 38 or 40k. Might (BIG might) be getting DSL in our area finally! When I do vote, it's usually for the challenge I'm NOT in. It's more relaxing and easier to give higher scores (which I need to do to even out my given vs rec'd ratio...hard to catch up (change) from my earlier voting days).

earlier i voted on the challenges i participate and judged other enteries of the comments i got, for example if somneone said to me this does not meet challenge because of this reason, i also gave low votes to others who do not meet challenge for the same reason.

But then i decided that i will try to vote on the challenge i have not participated so that i could be fare to all. I guess this is the best way for me.

I usually vote on both open challenges as well as the member challenge. There have been 3 or 4 challenges that I started to vote on, but my idea of the challenge wasn't in line with the entries so I stopped voting after about 10 or 12 photos. I feel that if I want people to vote on my entries I should be willing to vote on their's.

I often vote only on the challenges I didn't enter.

When my own score seems fair (and yes, that can include my usual very mediocre scores - I often enter a photo because I like it, knowing full well it won't do well), I'm ok with voting.

Occasionally, though, I feel hard done by and think I deserve much better. In those cases when I am feeling angry, it is best NOT to vote rather than punish others with a too low score.

I have found that when I shoot, I usually don't have time to vote that week. Before my son was born (and DPChallenge became a distinct 3rd or 4th priority!!) I used to enter and vote alternating challenges...

I don't think my score influences my vote, mainly because I voted in open challenges before there were two of them, and I did OK then.

I usually vote only in the challenge I didn't enter, however, to be more exposed to that challenge. I usually don't enter a challenge because I didn't have any good ideas for it. Exploring other entries helps my expand my artistic sense by seeing it through other people's eyes. After all, they saw something in those one or two words that moved them to make art, maybe I can learn from them.

That's my theory, anyway.

I usually vote in the one I've entered because...

1) I honestly don't have time to vote on both, and rarely do 100% of even one challenge.
2) I'm always interested in checking out the competition.
3) I usually enter the topic that was a more interesting to me (obviously). Often I don't even really care about the other topic and find the entries uninteresting. That attitude would probably lower my votes more than voting within my own challenge would.

Anyway, I honestly don't think my own score influences my voting much, if at all. I never lowball entries I think are honestly good. (Though my favorites are rarely the winners... :P ) And I'm well aware that my one vote isn't goint to influence things that much anyway, so why bother trying to boost myself that way? And anyway, as long as I am consistently biased throughout voting, it should all even out for the other entries anyway, right?
