I'm a big Stephen King fan. Recently, one of my favourite authors has been John Irving.

James Patterson - can say I have read a bad one of his.

I like Dean Koontz which is a milder version on Stephen King. Kind of got bored with him, though.
Also, John Grisham is alway a good read for me.

2 new books I bought myself for Christmas:

Portrait Photographers Handbook by Bill Hurter
and
50 Portrait Lighting Techniques by John Hart

Yes, I have a TON of photography books, but every new one has nuggets of good information that I NEEEEEEEED :)

My Favorite is Clive Cussler. Any novel with Dirk Pitt. He is the man, always gets the girl, saves the day and kills lots of people, but they all deserve it.

I reccomend :
Raise the Titantic
Sahara
Atlantis Found

all are awsome books.

My favorite go-to gift to my "reader" friends is A Prayer for Owen Meany (John Iriving).

Shit, if you like Donaldson, Tolkien, and King, there's an obvious step in the right direction: Dan Simmons. The Hyperion Series.

Piers Anthony - Incarnations of Immortality series (7 books)

Great series! Magic and science coexist; wonderfully intertwined plots and characters; I really enjoyed it. In fact, am reading it again for the 3rd time now.

EDIT: Piers Anthony's Xanth series is also very good.

I read Hard Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World- it was interesting. Kinda slow but it's still in my head! :0)

Piers Anthony RULES. The Xanth series got a little too rediculous for my taste though after a while...

Currently reading the Rune series by Mark Anthony.

Has a great story, and is engaging, although slow in areas. It's a recommended read though.

As a Stephen King fan, I hope you have read "Misery"??
It is way better than the movie.

Another good one is Dean Koontz's "Phantoms".

what about clive cussler or jack higgins - both their series are good and full of adventure.

If you like mysteries (I love them), read Bill Pronzini - his Nameless series is fantastic, but my favourite of his is "A Wasteland of Strangers".

My vote too. You beat me to it, I was trying to remember how to spell it. He wrote Fight Club for people who don't recognize the name.

OMG....Dean Koontz! I can't believe nobody has mentioned his name.
May I suggest;

Fear Nothing
Dark Rivers of the Heart
One Door Away From Heaven
or....
False Memory <---good one for sure
they are all really good, and they are all Koontz, owe another really good one is:
Night Chills
