Ok...so I know that most of us young'ns are on christmas break for the next few weeks, which means more free time to goof off and have fun.

I've been looking for some ways to bring our group closer to each other here on DPC...and it hit me when I was in the shower (like most good ideas do...)

I want to sponsor Photo and Short Story contests for all of the DPC users under 21. I figured we will have a little extra time and plus I think it'll be a blast. So here's the deal:

There will be two seperate contests; one for Photos and one for Short Stories.

The Photo Contest:

-The photo can be of any subject matter
-Make sure it was taken after you read this
-Keep pics around 800x600 give or take a little...
-Only one entry per person
-No editing rules at all...so go as crazy as you want in PS or keep it simple...whatever works

The Short Story Contest:

-Keep them decently short, I'll le tyou be the judge on this
-They can be Happy, Sad, Scary, or whatever you want...just make them entertaining
-Only one entry per person

You can enter both contests if you wish to, but you don't have to.

Prizes!

The winner will recieve a framed 8x10 print of one of my pictures (I'll choose...it will be a surprise! I'll make sure it's a cool picture...) Since there are two seperate contests...there will be one winner in each.

Judging

I will be the sole judge of the contests...I'll be judging on three categories:

Coolness
Radness
Righteousness

Lol...basically I'm going to pick the ones I like best.

Sumbission

Send the Photos and Stories to: calebphoto@yahoo.com

Make sure you include your username here on DPC and send me different emails if you plan on entering both contests.

The contest will run from right now until December 30th...I'll make a thread on the 31st naming the winners. I'll probably post the winners and some honerable mentions depending on how many people enter.

If you have any questions post them here. Have fun and Thanks for looking!

Caleb

Awesome idea, sounds fun. What are the size limitations for photos?
12/19/2005 05:07:44 PM · #3
Good question...how about 800 x 600?

I think that's a good limit...

We are all gangstas in these parts...crap son. I wanna start getting some pics and stories in.

I'm going bowling with all my friends tonight and bringing my camera...oh yeah, going to be good times.

Bowling is about the only thing you can do for fun over there in Kansass, eh? Haha.

What about those of us who turn 22 in the middle of the contest period?

Lol...yeah, that's pretty much it...especially when you get almost a foot of snow. Although...I did go sledding yesterday, now that was fun.

We try and make our own fun around here...and I live with my three best friends, so theres never a dull moment in our house. I bet Utah isn't much better though? At least you are closer to California though...siiiggghhh. I love cali...wish I lived there.

Oh, and mffnqueen...you can still enter, the rules are more like guidelines...I'm not going to be super strict on them. And since your 21 now...then you still qulify:P

Can it be a photo we've taken in our past or does it have to be taken after this thread was made?

I'll do a story too, I got an idea.

The photo needs to be taken after the thread was made...I think it says in the rules...maybe...lol

Then see my angry face you shall.

I'll stick to the story, I can't produce greatness under pressure.

All anyone does in Utah during the wintertime is snowboard, that's it, nothing else. "Greatest snow on earth"
Cali is overrated. I'm going to be a filmmaker, you see, and eveyone thinks you have to go to L.A. to make it...RUBBISH! It's fun to visit, though. It's just WAY TOO TOURISTY for me.

Oh yes, what about screenplays in place of a short story?

Yeah...I love to visit Cali...I don't know if I will ever live there though. Screenplays will work instead of a short story. That would be interesting to read....

Hopefully I get at least like a couple of dozen entries for the contests....that's what im aiming for...

sweet... I shall enter one or both. too bad I have loads of homework. Thursday cannot come soon enough.
12/19/2005 06:46:59 PM · #17
The photo needs to be taken now, but can the story be old/rehashed?

And how short does it have to be to qualify for a short story? I could flood you with something in the realm of like, 20,000 words or so :D

Does the photo have to be digital? I'm hopefully getting my new lens for my film camera in by tomorrow and want to take advantage of it...

Otherwise, count me in!
12/19/2005 06:49:51 PM · #18
I dk what qualifies a story as short really...just use your own judgement. :P

I don't want to be here all day reading it...but it can be pretty long if you want it to. It can be something you wrote awhile ago...since there is no way for me to tell really.

You can scan a picture if you wanna...as long as you take it within the dates.
12/19/2005 06:56:47 PM · #19
Sweet. I consider a short story to be anything not long enough to be a novel :D

I generally don't have the attention span to write anything too long anyway, and hell, if I can make it interesting enough for you to sit down and read through it then that's good enough for me.

can't wait
:)

Hahahaha! Finally, a chance for a Creative Writing major to have some fun! You'll be getting a story from me, sir! The passion lately has been more toward photos, but as someone said before me, greatness doesn't always work under pressure.
If only I were in Cali....*sign* Anywhere but LA, that is. The only good thing about LA is the ferry dock that takes you out to Catalina. Avalon harbor is the most awesome place in the world!
12/19/2005 09:21:45 PM · #22
Surprisingly I've got more short stories than photos so far:P

That's cool though...

You guys need part time jobs over break - way too much time on your hands. So get out there, start working and stop hitting your parents up for beer money

You look older than 21....

I'm proud to say...that I make all the money I need, and I don't have to work a single second. Wanna know how? Well...there's this thing called Ebay. :P

I buy my own beer thank you.
12/19/2005 09:36:10 PM · #25
yes, old enough to actually buy the beer
