This single little hyperlink has caused more loss of productivity in my life then anything I can think of. Sometimes I will purposely walk by the computer just so I can click on it. If I get up at night for a run to the bathroom I boot up the machine so I can click it when I return. There’s no satisfaction --- if Im doing well I click it more if I’m doing poorly I think about clicking it more but figure if I wait a bit maybe my score will go up. But it’s always there in the corner of my mind. If I wasn’t the boss I would fire myself or have the firewall block the site. It’s driving me MAD I tell you MAD!!!!

You are so right.. both of you! But.. I still couldn't live without it... LOL
Then, I achieve a score I like, and I say "don't update it.. save the moment"..but I lose the inner battle, and strike the mouse button, and "ahhh.. for shame, I have lost .002 of a point" blast

I bet the servers must really burn at certain times due to the Update button. I check it much too often. If I couldn't check it I'd probably get withdrawal symptoms.

On more than a few occasions I have hit the update link only to realize that 60 seconds had not yet passed since the last time I updated! Has anyone else done this? It would make me feel better if I was not alone.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I now check the time and make sure at least 5 minutes has passed since the last update...Sunday and Tuesday nights are the worst! I check every few moments during the first hour of voting...its the advantage of being a member!

I use the Screen Capture feature in ACDSee to savour the moment forever. Anyone wanna see my portfolio of screen captures? :)

Yes I have. I have also tried to figure out a way to have the score and comments be sent to my phone as an sms text message when ever I am away.

Its funny too because when I joined I never dreamed I would be this way. Now I find out that I have an addictive, competitive (I have lost.002 of a point) usually gets a groan out of mean, person.

Who’d have figured?

I prefer to think of it as 'better'. :)

Hah.. You all have nothing on me! I wrote a little program to check my scores (and record them) for me every 10 minutes. Now I can graph how good/bad I'm doing in pseudo-realtime.

for example: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=27357 is a graph of my Black on Black and my Letter B plotted by number of votes.
Be afraid. Very afraid.

so its only a short further step to setting that script up to send sms texts to phones to keep people up to date ;)
07/07/2003 03:26:50 PM · #16
I bet you could charge a membership premium for that. Or better yet make a site dpc-stats.com and have a much bigger breakdown of the numbers. Like women 18-29 average vote etc etc. I would really like more information about who likes and dislikes my photos. Demographic and all. Why not, its not like DPC doesn’t have the numbers for the breakdowns.

Oh and Matt, I NEED THAT PROGRAM... PLEASE

What someone needs to do is program a DPC ticker that scrolls at the bottom of your computer screen such as the ones for stocks and news.

The update stats button is a paid members feature. Registered users who are not paid members receive updates once per hour.
