Did you remember how Ronaldinho lobbed Seaman from 30 yards out during the quarterfinal game last time around? I hear he became really popular with porno producers after that.

Seaman's no longer Englands no. 1. He may not even be on the squad. Isn't James England's keeper or is that also old news?

The Japanese have been preparing like crazy for this world cup and although they wont go too far they may be a surprise in that group, England will sing a great song and they have a typical group and should go through, note i said SHOULD.. USA football has come a long way, they no longer pick the ball up and run with it and are now considered a MAJOR threat, they will get through.

For me, being half Polish, I thing Germany Poland will be a serious game and i tip both teams to go through from A.. usual crew from everywhere else no surprises, My heart felt tip for the cup is gonna be Portugal, they were unlucky not to fire up in the 2002 so this year im hoping for better from them..

Its gonna be great anyway..

G - France, Korea
H - Spain, Ukraine

Second round, well I'll wait 'til the first is over. I'm probably wrong on a few.

Those are literally, team for team, who I picked...I agree completely.

In the end, I look forward to seeing my beloved Deutschland win at home!! My wife and I plan on going to Germany to cheer with our families and I can't wait!!! I live for these few weeks every four years!

i definitely wish u.s.a. gets the shit kicked out of them because they're a mediocre soccer team. mexico should be amongst the top 4. holland will lose in round of 16. brazil will lose in semis. germany will lose in quarters. argentina will go to semis. czechs wont do fantastic things but they'll traumatize u.s.a. england might go to quarters. portugal might go to quarters but their fowards never score so that's a problem. spain hasn't done anything ever and they wont change. italy is a weak team. france will probably not do much unless zidane plays. ukraine might be pretty good. ecuador and paraguay are not teams to schedule your TIVO to. usa will lose. mexico will win. VIVA MEXICO!

Nope. England don't have enough West Ham players to win the world cup again. And ex-players don't count.

England don't stand a chance after Australia gets rid of Brazil we will repeat the dose we gave you in the last friendly.

England isn't going to win the world cup. I'm half British so don't throw hate messages at me.
I'm cheering for Brazil and any African (Togo preferably)team all the way. I can't believe Nigeria didn't make it.

Yeah you're right. Our forwards suck (at least I think they do). Just look at the euro 2004 quarter final against England. It was our goalkeeper that scored the winning goal!! There's something wrong with a team like that! :-).
Seriously now, no matter how well or pretty our midfields and nr. 10s play, the important thing in football is to score goals. Nobody wins any game without scoring. You can have a great defensive team and bet on the other side's errors to score in a fast counter attack. Italy for instance plays like that. We lost the euro 2004 final to Greece who also were playing like that. Not that we played a good game, far from it. Personally I find that kind of football boring and sleep-inducing. Goals. Give me goals. They are the essence of a great football match.

Well... it didn't do them much good against Benfica last Wednesday... Please note I am a Porto fan - a little on the slopes now!
Anyway, I also think Ronaldo is good, but he sometimes looses himself in his own game! And when he does a great pass or throws the ball to the area, usually you can find Pauleta or Nuno Gomes "just" missing the ball... trust me, it really is frustrating being a Portugal fan.

Côte d'Ivoire will be a tough team too, Drogba, Kalu, Koné (Kalu maybe dutch by then) But that's a strong offense. I don't know about their defense tho, could be a joke could be not. Argentina, ya strong team but the Netherlands beat them couple of years ago with a beauty of a goal from Bergkamp :-). But at the end, I think Netherlands & Argentina will be group winners.

Whatever.

Last I checked, USA is 6-2-1 (that's 6 wins) against Mexico in our last nine matches. Not bad for a "mediocre" team. How quickly you forget 2002.

And I don't think there are any World Cup games scheduled in Azteca.

USA is a mediocre team because they will never win a Confederations Cup, World Cup, or be finalist in a Copa America. USA will never beat Brazil, beat Argentina, or any very good team in important tournaments. They're not very technique oriented or skilled like good teams. Whenever they play great teams you can see the difference of skill right away. In the 2003 Gold Cup USA lost against Brazil's B team and the difference of skill and technique was clearly seen once again. USA couldn't even beat Brazil's "B" team! USA has good players but not the confidence and pride to be more than a mediocre team. They beat us(Mexico) because Arena figured out a good system to use against us. They coil up in the back with 7 or 8 defenders and counterattack whenever possible. Every goal they score on us is like that because they know were a superior team in skill and technique. That's how they beat Portugal in 2002.

I hate this style ... when US "professional soccer" had its first modern incarnation around 1966-67 I remember them playing a 5:3:2 formation -- that's five Forwards -- nowadays, it seems like everyone plays a 2:4:4 formation, playing to win by fluke rather than persistent attack.

Our local team was mostly imported from Yugoslavia, and they brought in some pretty prominent teams for exhibitions -- I saw them play Santos (with Pele), Manchester City, and Kiev Dynamo, among others. But that was several leagues ago ... : (

Did you see Greece in the Euro cup a couple of years ago? I'm really glad they're not going to be in Germany. I mean sheesh...what a boring bunch.

I appreciate teams that play with flair, regardless of win or loss. Teams that play in a boring manner just to "win" detracts from the game. Might as well be watching American baseball if I want to fall asleep.

I'm looking forward to seeing Brazil play with Australia, seeing the hubby is from Brazil. :-) :-)

How many of you will buy big screen TV's for the event?? I expect there will be quite a demand for them prior to the finals. :-)

In group E the plain facts are that Italy and Czech are far better teams than the U.S. and Ghana has a lot more style/raw talent. It will be a miracle if the US makes it to the second round... and if they do they face brazil. Its not looking like a very long run for them.

Never is a very long time, and the USA teams are improving. I can never remember these things, how much better did Mexico finish in the last two of three world cups than the US? It is fine being a fan, I hope you enjoy following your team, and I hope they do better in this cup than I remember them doing in the last few cups.

Granted it is not the "Beautifull Game" that Brazil plays, which can produce moments of grace and beauty, but as a former fullback I have always prefered the defesive, counterattacking game. No one attacks Germany for playing the defensive style. The full out offensive game reminds me of a lightweight boxer swinging from the hips flailing away like a windmill.
I prefer the tactical cerebral match to the showy virtuosity and selfishness that I see in so many amature games, oh, and when the Mexican national team plays. Funny that the US team knows that Mexico is a better team and yet has made a habit of beating them. I guess that they are just trying to compensate for the fact that they are an inferior team. How many more wins will it take for them to convince you, I'll bet on never.

What do you mean by selfishness of Mexican national team players? Just because a team like Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, or Mexico play offensive doesn't mean their selfish? They attack because that's what's done in soccer. Argentina is not selfish because they attack all the time but because they have the talent to do it. So does Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, or any other team. USA doesn't and that's why they're a mediocre team. Even in club play they suck. The MLS sent their all-stars to play Real Madrid and lost while Pumas of UNAM played Real Madrid in Bernabeu and beat them. Mexico beat Brazil and clearly showed they were better than Argentina in Confederations Cup. The Mexican youth national team beat Brazil in the final of the youth World Cup because they were better and because they attacked them instead of being scared of them. USA doesn't play great teams with that same confidence because it's obvious that USA doesn't have the technique or skill to do so. That's why they're a mediocre team. USA might beat us sometimes because of their defensive style but they will never win tournaments or be amongst the best like us. Never.

Yes, Ronaldo is amazing...but look at the support he has in Man U! This will be different, but still a lot of fun to watch...

He is good but he does tend to play his own little game sometimes and ends up losing the ball.

That is happening less and less...he's learning quickly. But...his superstar style won't work in International play because he doesn't have the other superstars backing him up or putting him through.
