Is this legit? It seems so, but of course I want it to be. Anyone else know about this company?

i purchased a Canon 5d at Ace Photo in Sterling Virginia for $2899. This is a well respected local store that will usually match B&H Photo prices. Most chains locally like Penn Camera will not match Ace Photo's (or B&H) prices. Ace Photo was having their annual 1 day only sale when I bought the Canon 5D for that price. I have a very good relationship with this store. They told me $2899 was their cost. I believe them. I was ready to buy the camera 3 days prior to the sale and they actually told me to wait for the sale to get a better price. They even gave me a nice trade in on My Canon 20D and two lenses.

I looked at some of the packages offered by thecamerapros.com. They seem way to good to be true.

ACE Photo sells some equipment on Ebay and their store phone # is 703.430.3333.
Ask for Shelly or Mo(owner) they are good people and will tell you if thecamerapros.com price is possible. Just don't expect them to offer the Canon 5d at $2899. They were very specific that their sale was a 1 day only event.

Could be a gray market camera.

Just a general word of advice, if it seems to good it likely is. and becarefully buying from someone who doesn't have a LOT of good reviews.

I find it interesting that they say they are a BizRate customer yet when you goto BizRate they don't show up - and the cheapest you can get a 5D from a BizRate customer is $2656.

From BizRate you can see Prestige Camera has an overall "good" rating and 1000+ reviews from customers and they sell it for $2656.
Here's the link to them: Prestige Camera

I tried to order a 20D with accessories form priceritephoto last year, they never shipped, said the SB600 was out of stock, I tried to upgrade to the 580EX but they wanted to charge me almost $500 for the upgrade, even though the price difference was only $120, then I wanted them to ship the order without the SB600 and ship the SB600 when it became available, and I would pay the extra shipping, they still refused, then I said I wanted to cancel my order, and they still refused, they kept abusing me both on the phone and in emails, so I filed a complaint with paypal, ebay and with the IFCC, after a few days I received full refund from priceritephoto with appologies and an offer of a gift of my own choice from their store valued up to $300 if I would withdraw my complaints.

I didn't withdraw, but still they did send me a 1GB CF card as compensation for the loss I suffered due to currency rate changes in those days I had to wait for my refund.

this store is something to be aware of, they are criminals and should have been closed a long time ago by the IFCC

I've found that the quickest way to check the legitimacy of an offer is to look at the accessory pricing, especially the extendeded warranty. The shop in question charges $699.99 for a 3 year repairtech warranty for that camera ($899.99 for a 5 year one).

B&H charges $149.99 for a 3 year Mack warranty for the 5D.

Other accessories are similarly overpriced.

BTW, does anyone know anything about how good either of these repair companies are?

I found this link on another photography discussion forum. I thought it would be of interest to anyone buying Camera Equipment on the internet. A Photographer (Don Wiss) decided to take pictures of all the stores selling cameras on the internet that use addresses in Brooklyn, NY. It's amazing to see the reality behind these internet "store fronts".

Please note: I do not sell Any kind of Electronic equipment and I am affiliated with anyone that does. Just wanted others to be aware of who they are actually doing business with when buying on the internet. Be Careful!!! Big thanks to Don for all his effort to expose the truth.

Eric,

This is a Brooklyn camera shop. If you want grief in your life order from them.

You will NEVER get this camera at this price. You will be offered a chance to buy a package of accessories that will be greatly overpriced with the camera.

There is no free lunch on new equipment

buydig.com is a store that I trust, and others on here haves had good experiences with.

Mostly people stick with B&H, Adorama, and Amazon...

Ebay stores have more credibility than these brooklyn stores.

I think butterflyphoto is another okay but iffy one, they jack up the prices on their accessories a little, but not to the extent that places like PriceRite do.

They might have a good rating but where on earth do they get off wanting $599.00 for a 1gb Pro High Speed Error Free CF card with no brand name on it?
