Hi there,

I'm thinking about upgrading my Nikon AF-S 18-70 DX to a faster telephoto of that range. Since I'm waiting for my D200 to come, I obviously can't buy the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 so my question is :

Should I go for the Tamron 28-70 f2.8 or the Sigma or maybe keep my Nikon ?
I've heard good reviews about my nikon but I really need a faster lens ..
I wish I had the money to buy the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 but well ... that D200 is gonna be amazing .. just had a look on //www.dpreview.com forum. Some guys posted high iso samples ... I think it's amazing up until ISO 1600 !! or at least ISO 800 which is not that on my D70. Anyway ...
What do you think ?

It depends, how critical is having the lens down to 18mm? the 24-70 would cut your zoom range significantly, converted to 35mm equvalents using the 1.5x factor: 27mm-105mm (old lens) to 42mm-105mm (Tamron). Thus, you completely lose any wide-angle capability that you once had. Personally, if you really want the fast lens, I'd try to keep the 18-70mm and buy the Tameron as well, but I don't know what your $$$ situation is. Frankly though, I don't know how much you'll get for the 18-70 anyways...

Hope this helps,

Keep what you have and use your 50mm F/1.8 in low light.

Problem is that if you sell the 18-70 you will have nothing less less than 28. Of course if you then buy the Tokina 12-24 or Sigma 10-20...

i would have kept my d70 and gotten the nikon 24-70, but thats just me.

have u considered the tokina 28-80/2.8? i bought d70s body only and this lens. its focusing is not really lightening. it feels very solid(and heavy). reviews online suggests that the tokina is better than the sigma.

The Tamron is a great lens, and there are MANY people here that will (and have) attest to that. Since I bought mine, it stays on one of my bodies constantly. The only time I use the kit lens (Nikkor 18-70) now is for wide angle shots.

Shouldn't that be Tamron 28-75mm?

If you want wide and fast, consider teh Sigma 18-50 2.8 EX DC.
If you want more range try the Tamron 24-135 SP 3.5-5.6.
Both are excellent lenses.
