1. People who use dead insects, glue them on a leaf or flower and call it a macro shot.
2. picture this, your driving along and you see a big wreck, a 18 wheeler is flying off a bridge, you take a shot of the driver and truck flying off into two different direction's, into the river below. Someone looks at your picture and says, needs more DOF, background is distracting, should of used a different shutter speed, what! give me a break, not all picture's are picture perfect, because they don't all happen in a four by four room under lamp's.

o.k I feel better, this is not all directed to this site, but others as well, anyone agree? don't be mad, sorry, )"

1. never done that

2. Sometimes comments like that are just an opinion of what could have made the photo even better. Whether or not it was possible can't always be determined by the commentor, and shouldn't upset you too much since you personally know it was out of your control.

Whats wrong with using a dead insect? It still produces the same (if not a better, due to more control) final result, so what is the problem with that? It is still a macro shot.

dead insect! please, my kid could take a shot of that, stand around for hours, taking 100 picture's to get a good one, you really don't believe that is photography do you? I laughed at one guy, [another site] people where just raving about his picture, the grasshopper's legs were dried up, what a joke, I really think it's funny, but I get mad when I get a real live buzzing around your head shot, and they knock it. no big deal, just ranting, (:

Oh" I understand that, but I think people get in a routine about picture's, I'm not talking about all mine, but other's as well who get knocked down because of techincalty's, I think people need to realize that some picture's are took at a split second and should be rewarded for that moment of capture. Life is not posed or blurred in the background, or the perfect tree and flower setting, we have bugs, [not dead bugs] cars, trucks, people, planes, wind, sweat, and grime, shadows, sun, etc, we can crop, but you can't get rid of real life, just want to open the eyes of some and tell them relax, its o.k the ball was in the wrong place, (:

I don't have a problem with dead insects unless the simply LOOK dead. In many cases, it's easy to spot the dead ones... lol

In a related note... one of the members of my camera club has a photo of a dead butterfly on the edge of a tulip... he regularly sells this print for $300. The butterfly does not look dead :)

I have to admit, you have to look hard to see if they are alive, their legs is what gives them away, don't tell me who he is, I'LL tell hehe,(((:::

just make sure you get their little legs hanging on to the leaf, and not stuck out because you might break their little dead legs off, (:

Hey, those aren't dead. They're fake! LOL.

My uncle is a staunch conservationist and loves nature. We often go hiking together. Once I wanted to take a picture of a tuft of grass bursting out of the sand in Zion National Park, but the composition wasn't quite interesting enough. I asked him whether he thought it was okay if I added a pine cone to the composition. He said, "As long as you throw it in with your eyes closed, it would be okay." Good advice for us all! LOL

I was lucky the last time I went there, this guy posed for me in the tree, and I was able to get within an inch away from him--they are normally quite aggressive.

Dead Insects are great!! The legs kept falling off this one so that's why it also looks dead. ;-) I was stil a rookie then.... my trick now is to shake them around in a glass to stund them then you have about 10 secs to take the shot!!! LOL

Putting them in the freezer for a few seconds knocks them out. Don't forget about them and leave them in all night. They won't wake up:(

You know what peaves me? Whiny people. Whiny people are annoying. I guess I'm one of them now. If you can't beat them, join them.

You know draney4 there is nothing wrong with using dead insects, dead cows, etc. if the photographer pulls it off.
These are props...no different then a mirror, glass, a carefully place hand, flower or drape.
Much of photography is illusion.....just has to be good illusion.

Of course if it's obvious then that's a different matter.

This bug was dead about a month. I'm not sure why, but I kept it in a container for future use. Notice how he's missing legs. lol:

Neither bug (bee nor butterfly) was harmed in the taking of this pic, though my ego was bruised a bit by it's finish in the challenge here at dpc.
