I'm a BIG fan of Christmas music! Every year I purchase another 1 or 2 cd's to add to my collection. I had quite a collection of the music on cassette tapes...many are "homemade" tapes off of old LP's.

I decided to consolidate my favorite songs from various sources (and also to update the cassettes to CD's). I now have 61 of my favorite songs on a 3 cd set. Yay! Some of the sound quality isn't stellar, but in a few cases, that only adds to the charm....some that were played while baking with my mom for instance...that even the 'old' sound brings back memories. I was able to work on the audio on a few of them to improve the sound somewhat and I'm pleased with the collection.

Below are my eclectic playlists. Everything from Andy Williams and Handel to the Muppets, Celine Dion and Bing. What are you favorite Christmas songs? Any memories attached to them?

Back in the 60's the best were the annual Firestone Christmas Albums...pop and classical, Metropolitan opera stars and Streisand all on one album. Great stuff.

Hmmmm....I don't think I have ANY Streisand. I'll bet she does an awesome job with Christmas stuff. Something to for me to look for on Ebay :)

Babs does a great rendition of the Gounod 'Ave Maria' although it has been belittled by people calling it "Oy Vey Maria". Oy! It is still one the best recordings of that piece I've ever heard. Here's a link to:

Christmas music shouldn't be played until Christmas. Perhaps I would apreciate it if it was kept to that.

Carol of the Bells...just about ANY version of it. I adore that song. It's even my ringtone on my phone. I love groups like Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Rockapella, and I love the classic songs with Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, and Perry Como. I have very eclectic taste as well, so my Christmas CDs are all mixes from across the decades. :)

Trans Siberian is another I'd like to invest in.

My younger sister went to a TSO concert/show a couple of weeks ago. Said it was awesome.

I love Christmas music. There are only one or two songs that I just plain don't like, but I can't even think of those right now.

Favorites? Depends on my mood. :)

Stories? In High School, we ended every Christmas band concert with "Sleigh Ride." That was cool.

Only one day out of the year? I like the change of pace it offers this time of the year. Also, it helps me focus on the meaning the season has for me, although some (like the Muppets!) are just for fun. And I love to sing and listen to music all year round.

I know a lot of people complain about what a "hassle" Christmas has become. I guess I have little patience for that because I think it's what you make it. People make all these plans and put all this pressure on themselves and then complain about it. I really like Christmas - both the Christian aspect of it and the extended good will, family oriented and fun aspects of it. We don't do credit cards, so over spending isn't really an issue for us.

"Sleigh Ride" is only important to me because of the high school band experience. Fond memories.

Favourite has to be "Super Mario's Sleigh Ride" by the OneUp Mushrooms (OC Remix). Should be enjoyable for anyone who grew up with a Super Nintendo.

Other than that, TSO all the way. Just purchased "Christmas Eve and Other Stories" and "The Lost Christmas Eve" from iTunes. Excellent music.

We have a radio station here in the DFW area that plays Christmas music 24/7 from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas. I listen to it all the time because the music gets me into the spirit, and my kids and I sing along with every song. I can't imagine relegating all of that to just one day a year. Besides, when it's still nearly 90F I need SOMETHING to help remind me of snow! ;)

Only one day out of the year?

Well not just one day, but not in November either. A few days before christmas I like to get out the DVD Christmas classic movies such as Elf, Home Alone and Badder Santa and have a cup of coffee and get in the spirit.

I think this would make a great Christmas photo challenge. To take a photo portraying your favourite Christmas Carol.

Never really been a fan of hoilday music (nearly 20 years of retail), but one of my favorite Christmas songs is "I Believe in Father Christmas" by Emerson Lake & Palmer (technically just Greg Lake). Also I like Joan Jetts "Little Drummer Boy" and Bing Crosby and David Bowie's duet of "Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth".

Oh My. I play Christmas music anytime I need a recharge. My wife came home last July to Mannheim Steamrolling along. I love it all year long. Have over 200 Christmas CD, tapes, and albums. Bring um on.

Enya - Oíche chiúin (Silent Night)

Difficult to find, but oh so worth it.
One of the most beautiful renditions made.

my fav version of Carol of the Bells is by the Boys Choir of Harlem. i could listen to it over and over.

TSO and Mannheim Steamroller cd's are always a fav. "It Must Have Been Ol' Santa" by Harry Connick, Jr. is one that makes me smile. Eartha Kitt's version of "Santa Baby", too. :)

Your playlist looks like a lot of my favourites. I have a ton of Christmas music too (I also collect Christmas books and Christmas movies on DVD). Some of my favourite Christmas songs, although it would take too long to list them all:

Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant
Vanessa Williams' CD Star Bright (my favourite song on the CD is "Do You Hear What I Hear")
Once Upon a Christmas CD by Kenny & Dolly
Snoopy's Christmas by Royal Guardsmen
Marshmallow World
The Bell the Couldn't Jingle
I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
Bob Rivers' comedy songs
Soundtrack to Charlie Brown's Christmas
Gabriel's Message by Sting
Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy by Bing Crosby & David Bowie
Mele Kalikimaka by Bing Crosby
and many many more
