I seem not to be able to keep my camera locked in a mode where it stays on either "self-timer" or "remote" mode without having to reset all the time to that mode.

I cant click the remote many times over but after a few seconds between shots it restes to S (single shot) or multiple (3fps) mode.

How do I get it to stay set? Thanks

Same problem here :(
Even after many user guide peeks, can't find any solution for that.
If anyone has a solution, don't hesitate, I'd be more than happy to hear it as well.
Thanks :)

I don't think you can. I think they did it that way on purpose, 'cuz people were forgetting to reset, so it defaults to normal. You may be able to program a user set to include that parameter, I'm not sure.

R.

Now check your mail and asnwer my question :-)

As far as I know the D70 has no way to either keep it in self-timer or remote mode, or program it to do so.

I am not sure, but I think you can do that in the new D200. It (the D200) has a couple user setting memories (or something like that), and those should come in handy.

When I switched from my Olympus c5050z to the D70, it was these user memories that I missed the most.

I don't know about the self-timer You can check the setting #25 from the menu, for the remote. I have mine on 15 minutes and the camera would not change the mode to any other unless I have not used the remote for 15 minutes or I switch the camera off and on.

But it doesn't affect the self-timer. That one still goes back every time.

And you're right about the remote and #25 :)

Self-timer, I don't think, is really designed on the D70 to be used over and over again. I don't remember reading anything about it and also I don't use it.

It won't stay set to the remote, but you can increase the amount of time it stays in remote before it switches back. In the CSM menu, #25 Remote, you have the option of telling it how long to keep the remote on before reverting back to S or C. There are 1min, 5min, 10 min and 15min options. After setting the shutter type to remote on your camera you have 15 minutes (if that's your setting)before it reverts back. Each time you click the remote, you get another 15 minutes.

If you're having trouble getting to the CSM menu #25, go to the Set Up menu, CSM menu and change it to detailed.

This is the same info as XION, just different details.

I'm glad I'm not crazy because not having that type of setting made/makes no sense...

One more question

I've been doing some long exposure work and do not recall the camera taking 8-15 secondes to display the picture....and freezing the camera...blinking the letters "job" before the image displays and allows me to snap again...

It took forever to take...maybe 2 minutes to take 3, 20 second shots

Again...I don't remember that happening before and what setting I may have tripped to get there...

Thanks in advance

You must have long exposure noise reduction on. It's in the "Shooting Menu" if I remember correctly.

Yes, remember that when you set it to use long exposure noise reduction it needs to take a dark frame with the same exposure time, effectively doubling the time required. The price to pay for no hot pixels!

Damn, I thought they'd have fixed that by now. I have the same problem with the coolpix. It doesn't stay on self-timer mode, you have to go in and select it for each shot. I've moved that function to one of the top buttons, but it still takes three presses.
