Forum friends, I need help.
Me and my wife wrote to Santa Claus to bring me new toy, dSLR. And he asked me for the model. Please do not start the war Nikon vs Canon, I just need your technical opinion and your suggestions from using one of these 2 models.
I have following 2 offers:
Canon 350D Kit + Battery grip-Booster 800 Eur
Nikon D50 kit 822 Eur
Please help and thanks in advance!

I bought the D50 kit. I could have gone either way really, but for me the D50 was significantly cheaper than the 350D (doesn't look like that's the case for you), so I opted for the D50 with the two kit lenses. Which lenses are included in these kits? The other factor for me was that the Nikon has significantly better warranty than the Canon in Canada (2yr vs 1yr on the bodys, 5yr vs ?yr on the lenses).

Standard lens for the kits 18-55mm, I tested some Sigma 18-125 lenses and I think that would be next investment. Sigma lenses are 280 Eur.
Thx for the help.

Based on features/handling/functionality I had a hard time deciding which one I liked better. I think I chose the one which suited my purposes the best, but without price to tip the balance... Would have been a tough decision. Good luck!

Is the Canon kit lens the USM model? If so, then it is cracking little lens.

I have just made the same decision. Had in my mind to go for the XT, but when it came down to handling the camera, the D50 won hands down. The position my little fingers were in did not feel comfortable, and the kit lens did not have a smooth zoom. Granted this was a display model in which every tom dick and harry has had their mits on it, but it did not fill me with confidence about the quality.
As has been posted many many times in this forum, go and handle the cameras and go for one that feels comfortable; there isn't that much difference between the two cameras.
