For LCD, one spec to keep in mind is the contrast ratio. From reviews and articles I've read this needs to be at least 600:1.

Best LCD monitors for photo editing are ones with S-IPS panel technology. The only ones I know of that have this are the Apple Cinema Displays and the Dell FPW 2001 or FPW 2005 monitors. However, be prepared to empty your wallet or bank account.

I got my Dell 2005 FPW for around $500. It's awesome.

The LaCie, Formac and other really high end LCD's start at about $1000 and go up quickly.

I bought mine ( 2005FPW )a couple of weeks ago. I love it but I really need to get it calibrated.

I calibrated mine using Apple's built-in utility. It's not bad, but I suppose I should look into a hardware solution.

I have the 23" apple Cinema Display, it has 1920x1200 as the max resolution, I calibrate it with the EyeOne calibrator, and it´s the best setup I've seen for photoediting :) exluding the 30" apple Cinema display ofcourse :)

I can't tell you about that monitor specifically, but just going off of the contrast ratio (500:1) from the little I know and have heard other people say you might want to look into something a bit better (600:1 or more even)if you're going to be using it for alot of photo editing.

any more opinions?

fáðu þér apple eða dell skjá, þeir hafa yfirburði yfir alla aðra skjái þegar kemur að myndvinnslu, aðeins eizo skjáirnir eru betri.. enda kosta þeir 5x meira.

get an apple or dell LCD, they surpass all other LCD displays when it comes to photo editing, only Eizo produces better LCD's but they cost 5x more.

I just bought my Dell 2005 FPW widescreen monitor a week ago. The contrast ratio is awesome! One thing to keep in mind is how it looks at different angles. I just replaced monitor that appears different at every angle, and this new one stays the same the no matter where you are looking at it from.

I had a Samsung 204T (20.1", 1600x1200, 700:1, 16ms), and I was not very impressed with it. I returned it - it was decent for photoshop and exceptional for browsing, but the performance when playing movies and games was horrible compared to basically any CRT (16ms response time).

anybody using the 30 inch apple? how about dell? I was told they have a new one coming out real quick.

Also..maybe I am stupid...but what do you guys do for your vertical shots to view them. I actually have a small enough lcd that i stand it on end and lean it against the tv on my desk. I do not want to go through and rotate them all just to view them...plus doesnt this change the integrity of the image? I rotate them after I put them on my website with a bulk function.

Thanks for any advice

I have the Dell FPW2005 but it's very bright and badly in need of hardware calibration. I have a spyder coming but it's on back order. Other than the brightness issue, which I can't seem to solve with Adobe Gamma and other things, I love it.

Personally use two Samsung 193Ps, they don't meet your specs, but they must be the best Samsung's ever made because everything I've heard about Samsung being bad does not hold true for these.

I was just on the LaCie website, they have some Refurbed LCDs that are cheap ~$510...something to consider if you wanna try to go pro.

Finally, I'm not at all impressed with the Apple 30" display. Sure it's impressive in the store, and having all that desktop space is nice, but I don't think it's worth the money. I manage a lab at school and one of the computers uses the Apple 30" display. From experience, the display gets very hot (for an lcd, and for that matter so do all Apple LCDs) and this causes a shift in the color. That's right as the monitor heats up, the color changes, not good. On top of that some pixels are corrupted by the heat when they try to display a certain shade of blue. Instead they light up a color closer to cyan. All in all, I'd say try the new Dell 30" over the Apple.

They do auto rotate in the camera...but when loaded onto my computer...they are all layed out in a landscape mode.
If there is a way to change this....I do not know.

Thanks for all the advice guys.....anyone have the 24inch dell?
