Convey the illusion or feeling of speed.
Given the voters on DPC, do you think a picture for this challenge has to imply swiftness, or do you think a picture that portrays any rate of motion (as in velocity) that may not necessarily be "fast" also has a chance?
For example: a picture of a snail with its slime-trail glistening in the sun behind it. This certainly doesn't imply any sort of swiftness, but it certainly gives a "feeling of speed". While it may meet the wording of the challenge, do you think voters will be looking for "long exposure of traffic" type shots?

Use your creative mind ....
Why do you think they dont just tell us excacly how to shoot and what to shoot?......
I myself atleast dont vote on how close you are to the subject and so on ....I look to creativity and such ..
Just wait and see what I sent in for this challenge;)

In my opinion a long exposure traffic show doesn't show speed as well as a motion blur panning shot. I also think that "speed" in this case implies a fast speed. If you call something "speedy" then you aren't referring to how slow it moves. In my opinion is should show fastness.

I have a brightly-colored shirt which is color-fast.
Maybe I'll sprinkle some cereal on some skid marks and call it "I Brake Fast for Breakfast."

| I'm guessing you want something swift, just to be safe. And, when I saw the challenge, I immediately thought of the long exposure car shot. So I figured I wouldn't take that shot, assuming a lot of others will. |

trying to grow up? Please. There is no need to be rude. I know that fast speeds are going to be more accepted, esp. by people like yourself, but I think that slow speeds could also be conveyed interestingly in an image.
Speed is a noun. Speed is motion or movement. How does motion or movement convey slow to you? Speedy is an adjective or adverb that means fast, not speed. Hence, you can shoot with a fast, or as slow, shutter speed. See?
You don't think a time lapse shot for those with sufficient cameras showing something slow moving, like a slug, or even a flower wilting without water, or the stars moving in the night sky, esp. if titled correctly, would convey slow speed?

Speed is term for measuring movement,1 mile/hr is a speed same as 100 mile/hr ,what you talking about is "fast movement"!

| For what it's worth, I'll be looking for images that imply time and some kind of movement: speed. A snail would do well, if the image implied, probably without the title, that the subject was speed--no matter how fast. I see speed as a relative term. |

I will be very open minded too. BUT.. If the challenge had been "Stopped Motion"... would something normally always at rest qualify as stopped motion? I don't think so.. I think I'll go try and learn something useful...maybe the Photoshop Monitor Calibration tool.

| I see, you guys are trying to suck me in to another pedantic wild goose chase. Personally, I'm going to the corner to buy some amphetamines and making a creative shot with them (AFTER I consume a few). |
