cough, congested head, fever....

just kidding man.

//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_flu

In humans, avian flu causes similar symptoms to other types of flu. [2] These include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, conjunctivitis and, in severe cases, severe breathing problems and pneumonia that may be fatal.

I try to avoid the doctor as often as possible...I could feel this thing coming on since last Thursday, but thought I'd just shake it off...well it's here, hopefully it just lasts a day, but judging from how long it took to start, and kick into this, I fear I may have this for a while.

Drink lots especially orange juice to get plenty of Vit C. Paracetomol for your head and Ibruprofen for the aches.
Fresh air and sympathy from your partner also advised!
Hope you feel better soon!

Ps and avoid chicken and feather pillows in future! :)))

Im sure its nothing serious but if you live in a high risk are ild suggest you go to the doctor, if its nothing doesnt theres no loss. I had a freind die from Minnichacokel (i cant spell) and about 4 people within 50km from me have died of the bird flu.

The symptons of these are much the same as the common flu but if you can still move after three days your probably safe.

Im not trying to scare you, but these days I prefer to be safe than sorry.

Look for these ingredients in your local pharmacy (usually found under the Tylenol cold & flu or you can get the Advil version):

Dextrometorphan (great w/ dry cough)
Guaifenesin (if you have phlegming; helps with chest and nasal congestion)
Either one of the Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Advil (Ibuprofen) will help with reducing fever temp., but Ibuprofen is better w/ inflammation (esp. when you have a sore throat).

If you are suffering from any post nasal drainage then you will want to get something w/ antihistamines (diphenhydramine, chlorpheniramine, etc.). Be forewarned that you can get drowsy on these, but they usually have the day and night formulation.

Good luck!

I'm just coming out from under. Not sure I had the same thing, but I slammed what I got with Airborne, AlkaSeltzer Plus Cold & Flu, aspirin, fluids, and lots of sleep. Kicked it in 2 days.

ok i'm ready to rest now.

I was thinking of taking some sudafed and maybe something like a pain releaver/fever reducer (my girlfriend tells me to anyway). I'm always the type that doesn't take medicines.

I have to drink more fluids...thanks for the tip, it's easy to forget that.

--

oh yeah and i had allergies last year, and got some stuff from the doctor, and after that was gone, took the sudafed...that stuff makes me feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good haha.

I found the greatest thing for stuffy heads/congestion the other day. My kids hate to take medicine, so I'm always looking for things I can use with them that don't have to be ingested. In your store's cough/cold medicine section, look for Vick's Shower Soothers. It's a large tablet that you put on the floor of your tub/shower and the water from the shower falls down onto it, dissolving it slowly as it releases vapors (like a vaporizer or Vick's chest rub sorta) into the room, clearing your sinuses as you shower. I love them. They don't smell particularly horrible and they work as advertised. If you don't like to take medicine, it might help. Hope you feel better soon, and don't HESITATE to go to the doctor if you feel worse instead of better in a day or so. :)

Sounds like ebola to me.

A big differentiator between the common cold and influenza is muscle aches. While you don't necessarily have to have them with flu, if you do, it's unlikely just a "cold" (rhinovirus).

Antihistamines do a fairly good job with itchiness and with runniness. They do a poor job with congestion (ie. you blow your nose because you can't breathe, but dangit nothing comes out).

Sudafed does a fairly good job with congestion, but can lead to unpleasant feelings of palpitations or being a little too jazzed up.

Afrin or Neosinephrine are like magic bullets for congestion, but you should not use them for more than 3 days due to a possible rebound effect. They literally work in minutes.

Tylenol and ibuprofen will help with the fever. Personally I avoid them unless I'm uncomfortable. The fever is there for a reason. Ibuprofen helps with inflammation more than tylenol does so you may get an added benefit there.

Most home/herbal remedies are as miserable at curing the common cold/flu as medicines. They make you feel like you are doing something though and that may provide psychological benefit which shouldn't always be underestimated. But just to inform you my bias, I am an extreme skeptic about all those products (including cold medecines sold over the counter). If I go for a home remedy, it's nasal irrigation with buffered saline.

Fluids are good as they help thin secrections which makes them easier to blow out or swallow.

Hope you feel better soon.

If you plan on still going to work.....a good medicine that works for me is 'dayquil'. I'm a huge baby when I get sick....I take that stuff and it works wonders for me so that I don't have to use sick days (I try to save them for when kids are sick)

Laurie: I saw those shower things on TV but didn't know if they worked or not....I'll try those out with Sawyer next time. (was home with Sawyer for 2 days last week)

Afrin NOse drops: I use these....but like Drachoo said...only for a few days and use the least amount. I lay back on bed with head hanging over the edge and put the spray by my nose (I don't spray) and let 1 to 2 drops drop in each nostril and then rub the sides of my nose and just sit for a bit. Man...I did a spray once...felt like I blew a hole in the back of my head! :)

Maybe sleeping propped up would ease up the congestion somewhat? Plenty of fluids. If it's a bacterial infection then prescribed medications should help but if it's viral..just have to wait it out. It's no fun I know.

I hate it when people bring their sickness to work and share it. If the doctor tells you that you aren't contagious, fine, but otherwise stay home.

It's like they don't care enough about the people they work with to stay home.

alcohol is an antiseptic - try some gin ;}

if you get your blood alcohol level high enough you can fight off anything... plus it dries out your runny nose.

I just love the way sudafed makes me feel -- like everything's a dream or something.
