I went through a few of the exercises in chapter one and posted some results. Not having much luck with non-natural subjects so far.

I posed a few more tonight as well. I screwed around with hand held and moving subjects.

I'm not participating in this because I don't understand this blog business and don't have time/energy to learn it right now. I wish you folks would link your blogs in your profiles to make it easier for me to see what y'all are up to. Some of you may have already, but I don't see links in John's or Gordon's profiles.

I've just got my first blog entry for this book up. There's more to come (you'll all be begging me to stop before long).

Hey folks, can you turn off the word verification option for comments! It's a pain! If we start getting spambot posts, we can reconsider.
11/22/2005 04:01:37 PM · #58
I am wondering - there are so many good ideas that are being presented at the different blogs, both for post-processing (e.g., all the different ways to blend more than one digital images) and for in camera, I wish we could "compile" all these ideas, so that they would all be together in one place for reference.

??

Sorry, I had it off, but started getting spam so I turned it on.

If you want to gather that, you can do that here, or in the group (team) blog.

I'd love to. Is there a team blog?
11/22/2005 04:23:24 PM · #62
Sent you an email. I can anyone to the team blog if they send me their email address.

Also, does someone want to update the link list for the new members and post the complete code?

  • Also, if you want the links to open in a new window, just add target="_blank" like so

  • I'm not sure if it would work without a space before the word target so here it is with the space.

Thanks again. It does work without a space (works either way).

Looking ahead into chapter 2, I think we should have probably tackled that chapter first and then come back to chapter one. In the digital photo world, chapter two would have been a better starting point than chapter 1 since we aren't working on film. We can't achieve either technique as described in the book, but chapter two starts out with two images and chapter one deals with two and more...

I plan to skip out on the portion of chapter one that deals with camera rotation and rotation w/zoom. I can't find much practical use for it in my own style of photography. I like the examples that have been posted though. They just aren't within my own realm of subject and taste.

I reworked one of my images and posted the results to my blog.

I used a 100% background layer with the top layer at 50% this time then selected the tree trunk as the black point to get a proper silhouette and deepen the colours.

Maybe those areas would be the more interesting to explore ? If you just stick to what you know that you like, then you won't find anything new to like.

I have thought about that in depth. I certainly could start shooting things that I normally avoid, but I'm trying to narrow my focus rather than expand it at this point. I'm at a point in my hobby where I am beginning to understand which directions I like to point my camera. I understand what I like to see in photographs. I think all the examples that this group has come up with are excellent, as well as those in the books. I just think I'll get more out of it personally if I try to apply it to my own ideas, which are not in the same direction :)

I finally got my last two rolls of film back and have updated my blog with the results.

Just added an adjusted image based on Neil's comments on my previous blog entry.
